Mercedes Tier 1 Warranty
My car is 3 years old and has covered 16,040 miles. I will probably cover a maximum of 5,000 in the next 12 months.
MB have offered their Tier 1 Warranty for £728 for 12 months. Would you buy it or use the money to pay for any repairs that may occur. I would take it to a specialised independent rather than a main dealer? |

Depends on how much piece of mind you want you want mate.
BMW quoted a similar price for the 5er, so at first thought I was going to keep the money in the bank just in case. But if something big did go ...ouch So I took out a fully comp, zero excess policy with Warranty Wise, as they seem to offer the best third party cover and it was almost half the price of the BMW one.

I wouldn't worry Jon, your mileage is low and it's a very low mileage car with no pesky Turbo's or superchargers to worry about!

I would only take out that warranty if i had to claim several times under warranty for various things.
Like everything it's a gamble but if the car has been trouble free in 3 years i would keep the money in the bank. You look after it, it's very low mileage and has a NA V8. Providing you keep looking after it, it should be fine for many more years to come. The only other thing i would do is look in MBUK forums to see what faults crop up. If it's anything like a 335i, then a warranty is a must. |

Ah fair enough. I've got a year of OEM to run then will have to think about whether to extend or not. I probably will as it only takes one thing to go for the bills to be pretty eye watering.

Thanks for the comments guys, spoke to the supplying main dealer and he said they are pretty bomb proof.
Made one claim in the last 12 months for leaking rocker covers, this was a known fault so no too serious. May get a few quotes from the AA and Warranty Wise to see what they offer. |

Unless you are keeping for a few more years, worth taking into account resale value - if you sell privately and you can transfer the warranty to a new owner, would make it much more attractive.

I have taken out a warranty for my car, and looked at Warranty Direct, AA, click 4 warranty, Warranty Wise and BMW.
For the money, I think that Warranty Wise seemed to offer the most value, (though it was pretty expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for), and I was able to add a few additions to the policy too. Its a zero excess policy too, which is good.

Does the Mercedes one include 'wear and tear', as that might explain the price difference as Warranty Wise includes wear and tear if you selected it. Having said that, £430 is a huge gap and if it was me, I would go with the Mercedes / manufacture backed warranty.

If you did want a warranty John i would defiantly go for the manufacturer warranty. Everything I read when researching mine points in favour of the manufacturer branded warranty.
In your case it's cheaper anyway |

Seems to me you want that warranty. It's a mind game now.
I didn't need my warranty, but I didn't need the 350 quid. If you think the same, get it, it's worth it so you don't worry. Purchases like this that I know might be poor value just motivate me to make it back anyway. On another thought can you opt to include an excess? |

Jon, I know you'll read all the small print but that notwithstanding, I'd go with the Mercedes warranty, simply for piece of mind on a car like that.
It's obvious having seen the car that you look after it so why not in this way. Just my thoughts on it. |

Having some manufacturers warranty remaining will also really help you sell the car when it comes to moving it on.
