From the Installation instructions: In order not to damage the visible parts of the dashboard (2), the cut-out should only be made up to the top edge of the bulged area (3). The impact protection further up is compressed when the holder is placed on. The cut into the dashboard (2) must be made precisely below the edge (1). Only cut out impact protection. Do not damage the base plate. Cut out the dashboard (2) using a suitable tool using the dimensions shown.

impact protection = upper dash board
base plate = wood/metallic trim

Sorry i'm not sure how to upload the diagrams but any and all cutting is occuring behind the dash trim piece. Maybe after removal of the bracket a pressure marking from the bracket would be visible on the upper dash. But no modifications should be irreversible in this instance.

Truth be told I've yet to sell one of these dash kits, however I have sold a few of the 1-series kits. They require minimal modification to the cluster bezel, which is a less than $100 part to replace. I'd like to assume the same consideration has been put into the 3-series version.

If it helps you out, I have used proclip products for a while. I have used them in two of my squad cars to mount my cell phones with. I have also used them in a Camry I had. I currently have the console mount in my 2009 328i. I used it to mount a Magellan 2000 with the 3.5 screen. I bought a Magellan 1440 with the 4.3 screen. That was a little awkward, getting in the way of the shifter. So, I took the phone mount off the Camry model and attached it to the one in my BMW. I wondered about the vent mount. But after seeing yours, I believe I'm going to get one.

The only reservation I have about the Proclip is that it's semi-permanent (in the sense that, while it can be removed, it's easier to leave the bracket attached to the dash and just pull the Nuvi out of the mount and store in the glovebox).

Living in Los Angeles, I worry that the bracket is a signal to would-be thieves that there might be a Nav in the car. Always better not to give the bad guys a reason to smash your window.
