Cograts Afsar - big upgrade!

How is the drive, feel, comfort etc compared to the 535D?

640D was the original plan but this time for a change I was trying to go M, RS or AMG. AMG didn't appeal the taste, RS was beyond pocket and old M interior was so out of date. I wasn't aware of turbo based v8 existed in 6er f12 chassis, old e64 was boring and had many issues mostly related to cabin comfort. In a quick random search I saw this engine (just 2-3 in all of UK) available, that was the turning point, I was decided there and then. It was like having (almost an) M3 engine in a the luxury of F12. Like for like E93 M3 (Convertible) is slightly slow in straight line compared to this, handling wise I think M3 can outrun this bulky long chassis.

Quite, effortless, very responsive, relentless, no lag as far as I can feel. I haven't dared to floor it yet. Missing the dpf-less roar which has been replaced with light light v8 burble. Steering is electronic so feels detached. 535d felt heavy but this is effortless. At cruising speed very comfortable, unless you engage sports+. Body roll at comfort setting is very minimal.

From 2012 roughly onwards it is 450hp. 410 is plenty though!

Lovely car with some nice options. F12 interior is spot on and a nice place to sit in.

Good logic there.
I see plenty of 640d on the road. One of them was on hard shoulder of motorway and when that guy accelerated, it was just WOW! could not believe it was d.

It will be loaded. Any retrofit plans on this one?

Similar decision to which I just made, I think you will be mightily impressed with the latter.

I wish I could afford RS5, it was north of £35k to start with, more like £37k for 61 plate, 20-30k miles on the clock. Perhaps, next time.

Diesels are amazing these days. X5 xDrive40 was always pulling like frieght train and that was in a big car, no wonder same engine will catapult 6 series chassis from 0-60mph in 5.3 sec.

Retrofit plans are (ordered by priority) Adaptive Xenons (LEDs are very expensive), High Beam Assist, Parking Assist, Lane Departure Warning and ACC2. All subjected to sourcing cheap part and having spare time to do it.

Only 3 (and possibly 4) series comes hard top, 6 is always soft top.

There are a couple of 08 rs5 round my way with the full works, 50k miles and the lovely v8 engine. They are up for sale for 20-30k. Very good price for a car like that.

Guessing your meaning S5's as the Rs5's only come out in 2010 and are 30k + but the older S5 also had a V8 lump until they went supercharged a few years later. Still a great bit of kit.
