so will replacing run flats with non run flats really mess up the TPMS?

So I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my sapphire black 335xi.

Now my first mod would honestly be ditching the run flats. BUT... the dealer/service manager is trying to tell me that it will mess up the TPMS. Is this true? Makes no sense to me. Please advise.

I think that he meant that when they dismount the tire, there is a slight chance that the machine can damage the TPM sensor itself.

I'm not sure if the 2008 model has an actual tire pressure sensor mounted inside the wheel, but the 2006 does not; therefore it can't be damaged. On the 2006 model, the car compares the rotation (diameter) of the left and right wheels, and when there is a significant change, then the car is supposed to warn you. That is why you are supposed to re-initialize the system any time you change tire pressures, etc. A system that uses monitors inside the wheel is far superior, but BMW took the cheap route on this one. Again, I haven't been keeping up with the changes for 2008 so you may want to do some homework. Either way, changing to non-run flats should not make any difference at all. The risk of damage would be the same for any tire replacement.

The dealer is full of it. I took the TPMS out of stock wheels and put them in aftermarket with no issues
