IL Traffic Lawyer?

This morning my wife got a ticket for 32 over. According to new law from 2011, 31-40 is now a Class B Misdemeanor carrying a fine of up to $1500 and/or a jail sentence of up to 6 months. Seems we need an attorney. She's going to call the family lawyer later today (normally handles things like titles/trusts/wills, etc for us), but I'm wondering if we need one that's specific to traffic violations.

I know there are some speeders on here, who do you use?

wish you the best. I believe that in Illinois they lowered the threshold for this to 25 over starting in Jan 14

Just to confirm, you are indeed looking for a traffic lawyer, not a divorce lawyer. Correct?

I don't know ANY traffic attorneys, but I've busted speeding tickets by challenging the accuracy of their equipment, and supplying relevant case laws and owner's manuals available online for speed detecting equipment with help from an e-book I bought a long time ago (hope I can find it, I'll post again if I do)...
* If they paced you, ask the cop to provide last radar calibration logs, tire pressure, exact temperature at the time of the stop.
* If it's radar, the world is your oyster with condition of tuning fork, surface hit, and the tons of atmospheric things (e.g. electrical wires, weather, presence of 18-wheeler) that can throw off a radar reading. If it's laser, relative humidity.
* Timing between 2 posts... Was the distance between the 2 posts exact? Is the stopwatch/monitoring equipment accurate? If it was a computer, when was the last time it was benchmarked, certified or checked for viruses/spyware?
* Visual estimate (e.g. "I saw the defendant going about 50+, and while I didn't have anything on hand to measure it that way, it looked like it")? Unconstitutional as all charges must be specific.

Good luck.

I have gotten similar tickets (and higher) along with a bunch of friends. Julius knocked it down to 1yr supervision. Last time I didn't even have to show up...

In a grand scheme of things you could talk to the prosecutor and see if you can plead it out, but it's risky. Done that once, it worked. I believe even if convicted you could recall the case for $50. It just depends how much time and money you have.

I have a friend who got caught going 27 over the limit.... it's a class B misdemeanor. Any idea what Julius charges to represent someone for a case like that?
