For the majority of the people it will be an SES light. Things like reduced fuel mileage, loss of power could be signs of CBU. I'm going to be emailing my buddy early next week with questions on this CBU issue and what they've found out.

That is correct. I picked mine up yesterday after waiting 5+ months for the repair. The last info I received indicated 9 intakes in stock in Germany. Previous conversations revealed that the original manufacturer of the intakes lacked the 'raw materials' to produce more. I assumed that ultimately meant tooling since there is no shortage of plastic.

At that point (early January) I must further assume that BMW engineering went back to the drawing board to develop a process for cleaning the intake. My dealer sent my intake out to a machine shop who sent it to another machine shop for the cleaning.

It's finally back together. Runs great, but I never had any issues other than random SESs and very minor stuttering.

The most important point to remember is this is not a cure. Only a solution to the poor performance. My CBU began to return at 4 PM yesterday.....

dude - 3x I have paid the $30 to access BMW TIS for the benefit of this forum. The only other person who volunteers this kind of stuff is Brad who has it thanks to his dad's shop. I'm happy to share as I have done in the past - or not...why should I always be the one coming out of pocket?
I'll donate $5 thanks man. PM me the details.

Its cool; 3x is a lot of times for that website. I've done it recently, and posted relevant TSBs here. Downloaded everything I possibly could for the 335d at that time.

PM Sent. :-)

Yeah, this changes most of any negative perception I had of the car, especially being under CPO (although I'll blow through that mileage in the next 2 years).

Now it is really just SCR issues that could be significant costs. Keeping fingers crossed there.

That looks labor intensive... and thus costly. I wonder what the out of warranty charge will be for this.

According to the SIB, it is 3.2 hours (32 FRU's), not including the costs for sending out the intake manifold for cleaning. Not sure what that would be.

I'd say around $2,000 at the dealer.

I took a 51K 335d for a test drive at my local BMW dealer. He showed me the maintenance that Had been done on the car, and they had just replaced the EGR. Would they do this CBU cleaning even though the car is out of warranty?

Just got my 2009 back after a lengthy interval and it runs great. I forgot how much I like this car. BMW picked up all costs and gave me $500 gift certificate.

The dealer, Grand Blanc Motorcars was also excellent .

I have a tentative deal on the car for 20K and considering the miles , 40K and the condition of the car, I think it's a screaming good deal for the buyer.

The dealer told me, if I keep it and want to mod the car, They would pull the DDE and send it to Ecotune for me and reinstall it and the down pipe.

If it doesn't sell by Friday, I think that's what I going to do.
