Best intake with most gains for 335is

I had the BMS intake on my 2012 335i coupe, nice intake, great price, but I just didn't love the whooshing sound. Are there any intakes out there that don't have that sound, that are recommended for a 335is, I would also like something with some extra power. What are your thought? And yes I did search and didn't come up with much.

Really? This topic has been covered endlessly here. Try a little harder.

stock. There's a thread somewhere here that showed aftermarket intakes having minimal gains over stock. Youre just paying for the cool sound.

If you're doing just a tune, change to a K&N or aFe drop in filter

If you're gonna mod heavily, any of the DCI intakes (BMS, aFe, Injen, etc) are fine

Plenty of gains with the right intake, especially when you raise boost the stock intake becomes a bottle neck.

If you want an intake that has the flow you need without the sound checkout the AFE Stage 2 Elite SI intake, its a sealed intake.

Any other open element intake will have some sound.

+1. If you want minimal sound then stock is probably best. Stock is a true cold air intake, so you have the benefit of the colder air. I like the swoosh sound of the BMS hot air intake and I think there are some small gains due to les retriction.

Maybe adding some air scoops to the stock setup would give some small gain.

You have been mislead by whatever it was you read. Here is a blunt and clear comparison between the Stock intake w/ a K&N drop in filter vs the aFe Stage 2 Elite SI. The stock Intake w/ K&N filter was done in 86° temps and the aFe Stage 2 EliteSI was done in 93° temps

The aFe Stage 2 SI Elite produced 13 whp and 17 wtq in 93°F over the Stock with K&N Drop in Filter

That's the type of intake I'd like, but can only find it for $805 shipped and that really expensive. Is there anywhere else that has a better deal?

Seems like a bit of over kill to spend $700 extra over the cost of a DCI to cut the intake sound down. I would stay with what you have or get a good drop in for the stock box & take a little hit in power. With $800 left to spend you could always make it up someplace else like with a meth kit.

I would just get a JB4 or similar.... you'll see more performance gains than an intake

I wonder if it would be ok to run either the Cobb Stage 1+ or 2 agressive maps with just the AFE stage 2 elite intake?

Mr. 5 did a thread on this.. The stock airbox is the best but as Jeff from topgear said it becomes more restrictive at higher boost levels.. You can build a Mr. 5 intake for like $50 with parts from Home Depot

No has mentioned Stett CAI....it's a true CAI - very nice product and will likely see the same gains as the AFE Stage II SI.

And for $400 less - grab a JB4

From the testing I've been able to find a true cold air is good for an extra 3-5HP. Typically not worth it if your looking and the less expensive filter setups but if your already looking at the AFE and others then it might be worth a look. Some have complained about fitment issues though as it's a real tight fit to get down into the front fender area.
