PROcede v3 + native iPhone logging app

Shiv, now that the iPhone SDK is out whatdya say you port over the PROcede software to the iPhone to use with a serial -> wifi adaptor hooked up to the PROcede? It would definitely be no small task, but I already did the hard part... the UI

You know it would be the coolest thing of all time right?

That would be very cool. I would have to bite the bullet and get a new phone, but it would be well worth it.

Honestly... If for nothing else, I would buy V3 if I could datalog with my iphone.

BTW, offtopic, but I had no idea that SDK came out... I didn't think that it was coming out until June! I have to go check out everythingiphone.com.

Oh yeah, I'm a hater, I'm sorry I picked on your precious iPhone.

Either that, or my phone does everything the iPhone does and then some. The iPhone's current iteration lacks so many features that modern phones have today. I'm not going to give up the features that a phone should have just to look cool with an iPhone. I'll give you that the UI and hardware package are nice, but I want a phone that actually has functionality. The 2.0 firmware will be a huge step forward in allowing software to be built (legally and without hacking) in place of all the things Apple left out, and Exchange support (which is HUGE for me, as well as many of my clients). And I also won't buy an iPhone until it has 3G.

So in my opinion, other than a pretty package, it's worthless as a modern phone right now. When they come out with a second version that has 3G, MMS, custom ringtones (without having to pay for Apple's selection of a ringtone), video recording, all that basic kind of stuff.

The SDK is out and you can develop apps, but the app store etc will become active in june (with the release of firmware 2.0)

This is a great idea. I've been thinking of this myself ever since I picked up my iphone.

Every time you sync your iphone you could have it update a database on your desktop computer so that you could store all your datalogs in an orderly fashion.

You might be able to automatically search for the latest Vishnu software/firmware updates each time you sync your phone to your computer (just like your iphone/itunes already does).

There is even the possibility of Vishnu performing remote diagnostics by transmitting your datalogs from the phone to Vishnu as you drive the car (although the Edge network capabilities may preclude this from working effectively).

There is really a lot of potential for this type of application.
