Hi all, having emission test due soon. Before doing so, should I:

1. uninstall cobb
2. replug trunk actuator for golf tee mod, remove shadow code with BT tool
3. use CRC emission guarantee to pass/ techron, then oil change before test
(used CRC on my other car with p0402 cat code, code gone permanently since and passed emission.)

Please advice. TIA

You don't actually need to do #2. Also you need to complete a few drive cycles, just to make sure readiness is set.

I bought a $28 tool off amazon that checks readiness. It's not necessary, but I like knowing before I made the trip that I would not be rejected for readiness issues.

P0402 is an EGR code (Flow Excessive Detected). A cat code would be P0420 for bank1 or P0430 for bank 2.

CRC Guarantee to Pass additive is complete junk. It's snake oil. It does absolutely nothing. I own an emission testing station in Atlanta. In the 5 years since I've been in business, I've done probably 35,000 inspections. Many of my customers have tried this stuff and it has never helped. Ever. The fact that your trouble code went away is a pure coincident. I have seen plenty of temporary or intermittent malfunctions, especially with EGR systems and catalytic converters.

I don't know where you are, but in Georgia as long as your car doesn't throw any trouble codes, passes readiness, has a working MIL (check engine light), and has a catalytic converter, it will pass the emission test.

I made a typing mistake, the code i got was p0420 (cat inefficiency) not p0402. Could be coincidence though that it disappear after crc. My car is not throwing any codes and running fine but just want to make sure I can pass the first time since it's higher mileage (130+k). Thanks for the input.

In humid conditions dew and moisture can collect inside the cats and prevent them from heating up fast enough. Your ECU can then temporarily throw a code, P0420 or P0430. Then, when all that water inside the cats burns off, after a couple of days and warmup cycles, the ECU is satisfied and the codes go away.
