Clueless about suspension

Hello,
I have an e92 335i sports suspension currently. I am looking to drop my car, but do not know which springs and shocks to use. Right now I have 18 inch rims, but will but 19 in summer. What springs and shocks should i buy? Coils are too expensive for me...

I went with the Koni FSD/Eibach pro kit springs combo with 19" Breyton rims. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=310984

http://www.**********s.com/KONI-FSD-...ings-combo.htm

I think the drop in ride height with 19" wheels is just right. Also great improvement in ride quality.

That's awesome dude, I was looking at that exact set-up. Few questions...

1. How much lower is front/back from the sport suspension ride height?

2. How is the ride quality and how have you felt with handling over stock set-up?

3. Did you need to buy any other components such as bump stops or any other little odds and ends that the kit may be missing?

1. about an inch front/rear
2. great improvement in ride handling and feel. To be honest I did the wheels and suspension at same time, so I can't tell you which had more of an effect.
3. All I did was buy the kit **********s and have it professionally installed. As far as I know, nothing else was needed (if it was there was no mention by my installer(.

Yea I saw the kit on **********s and that's a pretty good deal considering it's Koni shock combo.

Any pics of the beast now?

I have my 19" 230 style wheels with stock RFT'S and just want that low
Look beyond the sport suspension and it would be perfect

Looks good. Not a huge amount lower then my sport suspension when I have my 19's on. Pretty much what I'm looking for though...

We'll see. I might have to focus on brakes first, the rears are almost gone

If you just want the look, and are happy with the feel and performance of your current setup, how about just changing the springs? It would be a lot cheaper and still get you the look your are after.

Using just lowering springs is a bad idea. It will wear out the OEM shocks because the shocks will have to compress much more to absorb bumps. It's logical; the spring is shorter and therefore the shock has to travel more when you hit [any] bump. That happening all the time means accelerated wear on shocks = you're looking at buying new shocks anyway.

Replace shocks/struts at the same time is cheaper in the long run. You spend less labor getting them installed at once and the shocks last. And you have your OEM shocks sitting around so if anything goes wrong with your aftermarket setup, you can swap 'em back.

The suspension is the hardest part of the car to mod. It is a system - you change one part, it will affect every other part. Like dominos. Legato2057 has the right idea with his kit. That is an economical and safe way to lower the ride height.
Additionally you can look into a low-end coilover system (KW V1 comes to mind). I don't like them because they are unreliable and not good performers, but they are what they are - adjustable lowering kits, nothing more. Personally I would go matched springs/struts, assuming you can calculate out the ride height you want. Can't change it like you can with a coilover kit, as the spring itself determines the ride height.

Learn something new everyday. And glad to know I mad the right decision when I went with the kit instead of just the springs.

FSD's is a little better than oem. With sport springs you are much better off with Koni Yellows with much better damping, plus they are adjustable.
