e90 base rack with yakima button down aero ski/snowboard attachment
I have a 07 328i sedan with the oem bmw base rack. Does anyone know if the yakima button down aero ski/snowboard attachment will be able to work with my oem base crossbars? The reason I'm asking is, I'm planning to get it for my toyota sienna and was hoping I can use it on both cars.
thanks in advance!

They should work with the universal mounting clamps as seen here http://www.amazon.com/Yakima-Universal-MightyMounts/dp/images/B002IALAHC/ref=dp_image_1_0?ie=UTF8&color_name=1&img=0&s=spor ting-goods for both vehicles

^ what alexneil said. You can get the Yakima Universal Mounts - and they should fit all cross bars. I just ordered the Yakima Big Powderhound, and i don't think those come with universal mounts. I'll let you know if they fit the OEM cross bars without issue. I should get them in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks for the quick replies!! Thats so awesome that I can get those Yakima Universal Mighty Mounts.
Here is the buttondown aero attachment I just bought today. It was on sale for a good price. http://www.melcottons.com/products2....tton-Down-Aero The product description says it has Universal mounting attachment fits most round and square bars and Fits most factory bars out of the box. I'll give it a try and see what happens. But if I still need the universal mighty mounts, its not too bad of a price from amazon and can then use them for both of my cars. http://www.amazon.com/Yakima-8003590...l+mighty+mount

The Yakima Button Down aero includes these universal mounts from the box, but these would not fit well on my oem bmw crossbars. So after work, I went and bought the Yakima Universal Mighty Mounts and these appear to fit a lot better. The mounts do not close up all the way and it looks like a lot of gap, but it is very tight and appears to be very secure. I believe it should be fine to use to transport my snowboard. I'm really glad I'm able to use the button down aero on both of my cars. Here are some pictures of the install on one crossbar.

those look great...
but, if you are going to be leaving those on the vehicle and parking out in public, i would suggest some security measures. looks like the actual rack has locks. that is a lock tumbler behing a rubber cap? but, i would do something like getting a couple coated nuts of the appropiate size and putting them on the threaded rod that the knob for tightening the clamps is mounted. using them as jam nuts will go a long way towards keeping the honest honest, and reduce the 'opportunity' of a crime of opportunity. |

avocet,
thanks for your feedback and suggestions. Yes, that is a lock tumbler on the yakima rack. I didn't have time to put in the actual lock yet but I'll for sure get it put in. Adding a jam nut didn't even cross my mind at all, and I'm glad you pointed that out as a security measure. I'll pick up these nuts from home depot and apply them onto the threaded bolts for more added security. this forum is the best to get the answers you need and also get suggestions! thanks again!

I finally had a chance to put on the entire rack and take some pics of it as I'll be headed to dodgeridge this weekend. It seems to fit pretty well with the universal mighty mounts and everything is very tight.
