I am actually making a switch to the N55 Dct and plan on swapping my jpworkz kit over to it from my N54.

I'm sure once the new N55 from the M2 is available, complete turbo upgrades for the N55 in general will be available.

I just don't want to deal with the hassle of pulling a PS2 out to put in a single turbo if the Motiv or someone else ends up extracting more power down the road once tuning gets worked out.
I'm currently doing a top mount build on my car, with a kit from Ventura Motorsports

Awesome - how close to completion? Would love to make a trip to check it out once complete.

No knock on Motiv, but Pure Turbos has a proven product and is a wonderful company to work with. They will have their work cutout for them.

You do realize a kit from Motiv would be a stage 3 turbo. Not a stock frame stage 2 like Pure's. Apples and oranges.

Motiv has had a N54 version out for a while and it doesn't sound like the differences are drastic. So I wouldn't be too worried about the hardware. The tuning side is our biggest issue, but PI sounds like it may be the answer. I know a few people have it going already, but we should see a lot more results in the next 2 months.

Ok..stock frame or not stock frame better? Stages are pretty simple. 1 is just the turbine, 2 is fit as big a turbine as you can bore out, 3 anything not stock frame. Dont see how it's silly to call them by stages.

This isn't Gran Turismo. A "stage 3" could be a 350hp turbo or a 1000hp turbo. Hence, it is a meaningless moniker with no official definition. A PT6266 turbo is a 6266 turbo no matter what engine it is on.

Totally agree. I get mocked by others when I tell them I have a stage 1 turbo on my car. At least that is pretty viable when I tell them there is really only 1 supplier. :P

You're really on to something here. I agree. Everybody I talk to looks at me like I'm nuts when I start using BMW forum talk to describe my Pure "version 2" stock-frame turbo. They just want to know "how big" it is and I don't know how to answer them.

I must say that the Motiv r&d really is great and the kits are very well put together. I visited the facility where the magic happens and spoke with them for a good while. I was really impressed. The timeline for their release on the N55 kits in may isn't on my time frame.

I haven't visited Fastgti69's (Ventura Motorsports) facility, but have spoken to him in length and seems like a quality individual as well. My kit should be arriving tomorrow for review.

Last thing to note is that VM's N55 Beta kit is top mount, the Motiv kits are bottom mount so there's a different flavor for each persons liking

I love the bling of the topmount. That'd be my choice.

Just say it's a high flowed stock turbo.
Vargas posted the size of the wheels in his stage 2.
Not sure if this is still accurate as it was back when Pure was only doing a stage 1 and I think Vargas revised their design.

Quote:
Compressor:

Stock Compressor: Inducer - 45.8mm, Exducer - 62mm (65.3mm at extended tip)

PURE Stage 1 Compressor Wheel: Inducer - 49.5mm, Exducer - 67mm (72.5mm at extended tip)

Vargas Stage 2 compressor wheel: Inducer - 57mm, Exducer 76mm (78.5mm at extended tip)

Turbine:

Stock turbine: Inducer - 53mm, Exducer 47mm

Vargas Stage 2 Turbine wheel: Inducer -60mm, Exducer - 55mm

Comparison results:

Vargas Stage 2 Compressor:
Inducer - 11.2mm bigger than stock, 7.5mm bigger than stage 1
Exducer - 14mm Bigger than stock, 9mm bigger than Stage 1

Vargas Stage 2 Turbine:
Inducer - 7mm bigger than stock and stage 1, Exducer - 8mm bigger than stock and stage 1.

I personally don't see the point of doing stage 1 setups for the price and labor involved you may as well do stage 2. In the N55 platform PS2 are good for 550whp and the you start maxing them out. On the N54 platform just go single and call it a day tbh.

I am pretty sure it is a GTX3076R in the stock housing. Just tell them that. I saw something way back before it came out, but haven't seen any confirmation since. The HP figures we see put it right there too. The PS2 is just shy of it, but it is not in the native housing any more either which will cost a little HP.

Are you saying that's what the VTT Stage 2 is? The Pure Turbos has a journal bearing and the GTX3076R is ball bearing.
