Creaking Sounds: 2009 E90
On anything but the smoothest of roads, my 2009 E90 335i creaks. It sounds like the sounds are coming from the doors (seals?), especially in the rear, or it could be the leather-on-leather as the structure flexes. The car has fold-down rear seats. My 2006 E90 330i (also with fold-down rear seats) did not make these sounds.
I have yet to put someone in the back seat to try to isolate the sound. Anyone else experiencing this creaking sound? Thanks! Brian

Holy christ, I have this same issue. I swear that this sound is coming from one of my driver's side doors. I can't isolate it just yet, but it's definitely there. I'm very interested to see what the cause of this could be.
Do you want to be the guinea pig and take your car to the dealership? |

Yes, I have ZCW. Creaking happens from dead stop to about 30-40 mph. Car is dead quiet at highway speeds. I'm going to call the dealership some time next week (not driving the bimmer this week so I'm not going to worry about it).

My 09 has 3500 miles on it, and creaks all day! I believe the creaks you hear from the doors are from the rubber seals against the frame... mine have subsided some.
Somewhere around my ash tray there is a really annoying rattling sound now... my car rattles more than my 2000 Tacoma! *but I still love my car* |

Strange that my 2006 3 series didn't exhibit this behavior, nor did that of my business partner. And in he three years I've been on this forum (and e90post) I haven't heard about this issue (see below where I eat those words). You would think that, in the fifth year of production, this would have been resolved. Quote:

Here the "welcome to 3 series ownership" comment is appropriate. My 2006 rattled like a 12-year old Grand Am. Once the creaks on my 2009 are sorted out, I'm sure I'll hear all the rattles! But, yeah, I still love my car (and the 2006) too! Oh, and here, for reference is my post on Bimmerfest: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...=1#post3945134 So, apparently, this issue is well known!

Ditto.
When enthusiastic 3-series wannabes have asked me how I like my car, I've told them "great car...too bad it creaks like a wooden boat." This exchange has happened 3 times to date. Hello...are you listening, BWMNA? How many potential sales can you afford to lose in this economy? My car now has 13k miles. I've come a long way, but I am still eliminating creaks. Felt tape, high-density foam, and Carbaflo are my new best friends. My Service Advisor has been very helpful, especially with some of the more challenging creaks (e.g. replacing the radio harness). He agrees the car should not creak the way it does. But if I relied on BMW service to address each creak as it emerges, I'd never have a chance to actually drive the car. So I am especially grateful to this forum, and to each of you who, through your postings, has helped teach me how to take my car apart to fix creaks. I just didn't realize that's what I was signing on for when I bought the car.

I PM'ed SocalTech and here's what he had to say about this issue:
Hope that was helpful. I went ahead and e-mailed my CA (as I don't have an SA yet) to make an appointment for next week. I'll let you know how it goes. |

I used to have door seal creaking on my Mercedes.
Try applying a light coating of talcum powder to the rubber and see if that doesn't help stop all the noise. |

Quick update:
I took my car into the dealership this morning. I took a "test drive" with a technician that lasted all of thirty seconds. We never even left the parking lot when he acknowledged that there was creaking all over the place. He said it was the door seals and that it's a known issue. Pretty awesome how they took ownership of the issue right away. The only negative is that I have a Pontiac Vibe as a loaner... booo. I'll post another update once I get my car back (hopefully today or tomorrow). |
