Back up camera Help!!
Hello fellow forum members. I have a 2010 328i with a JVC aftermarket receiver and have installed a back up camera, but one problem.. My camera doesn't switch on when I put the car into reverse?? How am I able to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need more information on the details please let me know! Thanks for the help guys!

Are you able to get the video feed from the camera manually by switching sources?
My guess is that you're missing the connection from your reverse trigger to the Pioneer (possibly taken from the reverse lights?). |

on my e90 the feed to reverse bulb was 8v , not enough to trigger the reverse signal.
i bought a relay i think it was called absolute... 5 prong and a harness plug for it it, both for $6-7 shipped from amazon. the relay will make the 8v into 12v. You will also need to find a 12v for the relay, from an accessory or "on" key position wire (not from battery directly). I bought one of those tap a fuse cables and tapped into garage opener fuse. the reverse bulb wire i think it was purple/black , not sure... buy the relay and plug harness connect it to 12v and ground, connect the reverse bulb's wire 8v to relay , then the triggered 12v from relay to jvc. You can wire the relay directly to the battery as long as you put a fuse close to the battery. The relay will only turn on if the car is in reverse.
You can even add a switch to turn on the camera when you're not in reverse using a couple of diodes. |

The issue is that you are probably tapping off the reverse lights at the rear tail light. The length of the wire run from the FRM in the drivers footwell, back to the rear lights, and then forward again to the head unit results in a pretty large voltage drop. What I did was tap off the proper wire on the FRM wire harness. This resulted in a strong 12V signal that I could route directly to the head unit area.

One issue here, if the car is 6MT you are SOL. The reverse status is not available on the CANbus on a 6MT car since there is no TCU to provide the data. (ask me how I know )
