oil dripped onto the hood - am i screwed?
I went away for the weekend and thought I'd do the smart thing with my car -- I left it in the garage at work and took the train home
I went back to get my car tonight and drove it home. When I got back, I noticed a huge oil mark in the center of the hood, with lots of trails off it it where the oil made it's way down the hood to the ground. i guess it dripped from the parking level above Did I eat through the paint? It sure seems like my pain job is screwed. There are rainbow oil marks all over the hood. i can't win with this car |

lol, claying isn't going to do anything, oil doesn't dry up...
I would try polish... BTW..don't worry about it too much. Next thing it will be something else, like a door ding or scraped front bumper on a curb. If you are constantly worrying about it you will find yourself miserable when it gets damaged in a more serious way. You're right, its not a winning situation. Keeping a Daily driven car perfect is a losing battle. If you're smart, you will take my advice. Do everything you can to minimize it, but don't stress too much. You won't enjoy the car. I speak from experience. |

try using dawn or any kind of dish soap..i believe it removes all types of oils, including wax...will need to re-wax afterwards tho for sure..

Yeah, I couldn't imagine it would be permanent. I second the Dawn idea. I'd repeat it several times, but focus solely on that problem areas. Too much dawn on the trim, etc isn't good.

Oil should come off with a good wash like others said. I'd be careful about using my washmitt on it if there's a lot of oil. While you can get oil off the washmitt, it might be a pain. I would probably use an old or cheap microfiber towel with soap to take it off then wash or throw away the towel.

Just wash the hood w/ warm water & soap and you should be fine.
