oil dripped onto the hood - am i screwed?

I went away for the weekend and thought I'd do the smart thing with my car -- I left it in the garage at work and took the train home

I went back to get my car tonight and drove it home. When I got back, I noticed a huge oil mark in the center of the hood, with lots of trails off it it where the oil made it's way down the hood to the ground. i guess it dripped from the parking level above

Did I eat through the paint? It sure seems like my pain job is screwed. There are rainbow oil marks all over the hood.

i can't win with this car

lol, claying isn't going to do anything, oil doesn't dry up...

I would try polish...

BTW..don't worry about it too much. Next thing it will be something else, like a door ding or scraped front bumper on a curb. If you are constantly worrying about it you will find yourself miserable when it gets damaged in a more serious way. You're right, its not a winning situation. Keeping a Daily driven car perfect is a losing battle. If you're smart, you will take my advice. Do everything you can to minimize it, but don't stress too much. You won't enjoy the car. I speak from experience.

try using dawn or any kind of dish soap..i believe it removes all types of oils, including wax...will need to re-wax afterwards tho for sure..

Oil will not "eat" paint unless it has something else in it. It should come off with a good wash; if not try a light polish.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine it would be permanent. I second the Dawn idea. I'd repeat it several times, but focus solely on that problem areas. Too much dawn on the trim, etc isn't good.

if a normal car wash is not removing it id try using a light degreaser Ie bug remover something in that manner while washing and if that dont do it your going to need a light polish and it will for sure be gone.

Just make sure to reseal it once your done and are sure its all off.

Oil should come off with a good wash like others said. I'd be careful about using my washmitt on it if there's a lot of oil. While you can get oil off the washmitt, it might be a pain. I would probably use an old or cheap microfiber towel with soap to take it off then wash or throw away the towel.

Brake fluid would be bad. It'll stain paint. Try a de-greaser then a light polish.

Could be some type of acid, that is one thing that will ruin your hood for sure. I don't think oil would ruin paint.
