Thanks guys. Looks like the BMW 3bar MAP sensor is en route from Germany. But I'm told by the dealership that it won't be in until next week. So until then, we are essentially capped at ~585whp. I really miss how 630whp feels. And really look forward to running at 650-700whp. So does the VBOX

How about small turbo dynos? How many pre-release customers are having that installed?

We are currently putting together a smaller turbo kit for a local customer car right now. Won't be up and running for another 2-3 weeks since we are also going to test fit the kit in a few other cars (i, xi, 135, 335).

Also, we will be installing the production version (with billet turbine) of the middle size turbo in our shop car within a week or two and will retest. It should make a bit more power (at the same boost level) and spool up ~300RPM earlier than what we currently are running.

Question...on the street, on average, if you are really building up load from down low (sub 2500 RPM), what kind of RPM are you turning when you hit 1 bar of boost?

Funny you ask... I took this video on the way to the Airstrip event. Roll-on in 6th gear starting from 2000rpm. Looks like full boost by 3400RPM.

Will retest with the new turbo with upgraded billet turbine wheel.

Excellent. And with full boost targeted throughout the rev range, I would imagine that number would be more like 3200, esp. with the upgraded turbine wheel. Awesome stuff, if the rods don't bend at higher HP levels, and the engine/car proves it's ability to handle the power reliably this may well be a 21st century 2JZ, and I will find it very difficult to not have one of these, despite my resolution to not go "crazy" on this car when I first bought it.

Yes This engine really does seem to like making power. Sounds smooth and relaxed even when making this kind of power. For it to do what we asked it to do all day at the airstrip, it's already proven to be exceptional. And to think that there were those who claimed that the DI system and the cylinder heads were preventing it from making much more than 500whp

Definitely. I'll be honest, I was a bit concerned as to what the outcome of the engine would be if you really ran it all out at full boost for the entirety of the event, mostly having to do with rods that aren't much thicker than a swizzle stick. The fact that it performed under sustained load, with multiple runs, and was driven there and back is a serious sign of the big power dream being close to reality. I am very excited to have this setup multiply itself onto other cars, and to have it log thousands of hard miles, to see what it's really capable of handling. Because the ability to daily drive 600+whp and 500+wtq would be simply too tempting to pass up.

I was truly expecting that supercharged z06 to destroy me. And quite honestly, it should have based upon how fast it was running towards the end of the day. I got lucky. That double-take was just pure surprise. Once I realized i actually had a chance, sh$t got real

I haven't paid any attention to the N54 aftermarket until recently, and given the age of the platform and how well it's been received, I'm a little surprised that these kinds of milestones are just now being achieved.... especially given how impressive the results appear to be!

Shiv, what turbo did you use with the kit in your testing so far? Would you be willing to disclose the turbo details at this point? Please say BW EFR8374 using the T4 1.05 A/R housing

Hallelujah! I was hoping for a billet wheel. What about titanium exhaust turbines? When I talked to Robert a few weekends ago, he mentioned limiting the torque to ~450 and HP to ~530 for xi and AT guys. So given that I'm xi with 6MT and my car is smoking HORRIBLY right now from blown turbos....what are my options? Maybe I'll just get my new turbos through my warranty and then sell them for yours haha.

(If you are my warranty company and are reading this, this is only hypothetical and I would never actually follow through with this.)
Ughh...my stupid signature absolutely refuses to update

For years I think the n54 tuning shops, Vishnu included, were just focusing on the details and spending too much time fighting over a small piece of pie. When in fact, there were far more delicious slices to grab. It just took some work, research and time to make it happen. We are already working on the next stage of development which should result in another similar sized leap in N54 performance. But that is for later in the year.

The ERF turbos still aren't available in quantity or without super long lead times. I think BW's involvement in Champ Car is to blame for their several month long backlogs. But I can't say that I'm disappointed with this situation given how well our current turbo choice is working.

Shiv
