(Sorry to thread jack)
This is a problem with the HU itself. Probably a bad capacitor inside the HU and will require replacement (or very skilled repair).

I dont know but I seriously doubt that BMW have planned a retrofit like this... I think that you will have to fake the Production Date anyway.

Welcome back amigo!

Thanks for your reply.

To be clear: this is not a 'planned' retrofit from BMW; the vehicle coding to which i was referring was to upgrade older 2009-2013 cars to be able to accept this newer part number.

Of this, i am fairly sure...previously i dont believe these HU were compatible with the car at all. (Reason was because there have been a production run of defective head units under the old pn).

However, i was thinking further. Its likely we still need to trick the car to enable these [i]options[/]. Specifically it might be the prod date which tells the car whether these options are "inbox" (from above posts) or not.

FIXED!!! - you don't need to build a mic harness - see below!

Keep in mind that if you dont have a e93 or e88 the mic reference is different!
Because convertibles have the mic at the steering wheel column but others have it at the roof lights module!

For e93/e88:

For 6FL/USB+iPod:
84109237653 x1 -> USB+Aux Socket
61119129360 x1 -> Coaxial fakra wire for USB

For 644 Bluetooth:
84316977740 x1 -> mic
61316950266 x1 -> Steering wheel column cover
ADDED: 61120396159 -> retrofit harness; voice input
...
DELETED-7072 x1 -> 3 pins Connector - DELETED (replaced by retrofit wiring harness)
DELETED-5197 x4 -> Female Pin - DELETED (replaced by retrofit wiring harness)

...
UNLIKELY NEEDED - 61138384550 x1 -> 12 pins Female Connector
UNLIKELY NEEDED 61138387206 x1 -> Connector housing (may radios will already have either this already present or a 40 pin style connector which makes it unnecessary - but its cheap insurance if you don't want to pull your HU twice!)

Other e9x and e8x

For 6FL/USB+iPod:
84109237653 x1 -> USB+Aux Socket

84316938762 x1 -> mic

And as a reminder, the new OEM HU parts are:

Totally different configuration if you have a circa 2007 HU. cheapest would be to do a 6FL retrofit. There are other threads on that topic.

You could also buy this HU and sell your old one.

Angry 6 months later, this has been kicking my ass

I bought the usb/aux port and cable from ECS Tuning in febuary and it has been a b*tch getting past that rear air vent that leads to the console.

Anyone got pics of how they conquered this animal?

I have successful to install a professional HU with USB and Bluetooth on 2009 Non-idrive E90. It works like a charm after coding.

I also can confirm that with the HU with BT and Combox can have BT turn on in my non-idrive E90 after coding.

No pics. You can basically pull out the vent and or pull off the whole rear of the console at the seam. Just jiggle and move side to side to release clips.

Add USB

Hi,
I basically have the same question as Josue335i from above. I already have Bluetooth option and aux in armrest but no USB, I have a 2009 318d with professional radio but no MULF next to the battery (in fact there is only enough room for the batter and nothing else in the compartment).

Could the MULF be somewhere else? How could I have Bluetooth without one?

If there is one, can I easily add USB?

Sorry for all the questions, only had the car a week and have been looking for answers since!!

Hi sorry to bump the old thread, but I have a question that hopefully has a straightforward answer.

I have acquired one of the head units with BT and USB built in. I have fitted it (no mic or USB socket yet) and it appear to work fine, pairs with my phone, USB option displayed, so all good.

My question is, do I still have to do any coding? i.e. update the VO to include the new options? I am happy to do it if required, but if there's no need to I will just leave it as it is.

My car is a UK 2010 E90. Had pro radio, but just aux.

Cheers for any help.

As above but without the USB option displayed.

I have read through the 15 pages and picked up some useful information but I am missing some basics, if anyone can help with the following.

I have a 2011 320d ED and it comes with the headunit mentioned in this thread (I have verified by looking at the back and top of the headunit). It has the bluetooth logo and socked (unpopulated) at the back. It does have AUX in the arm-rest but no USB? I have fitted the USB cable as per tutorial on the first page and understand it needs coding for the USB option to show however i have a couple of questions

1. What cable do I need, I think its a DCAN from what i have read but all the DCANs i look at state not compatible with diesel engines?

2. What software do I use? I have got a copy of INPA 5.0.2, NCS-Expert and WinKFP

3. What do I need to code, I have read some bits on adding 6FL but i think this is a different retro fit?

If anyone can point me in the right direction I don't mind doing the research and even posting back with a tutorial to help others in the future.

Thanks

This is driving me nuts!
I have an e87
That I have installed a deck with built in USB and Bluetooth. When I got it it worked fine except for angry loud bongs (without coding) I tried to find the bongs but lost USB and Bluetooth but was able to change the date in the cas and NFRM and got Bluetooth back and USB2 ( wouldn't connect up with my iPod. I tried to change the radio to stufe_3_4 but lost Bluetooth and USB again,
What do I do??

Got my BT and USB 2 back but I need normal USB as USB 2 doesn't read iPod..
Anyone have any ideas? When I try to code the Rad2 I get the typical error.

While I wait for my cable to be delivered I have done some further research.

I will need to edit the VO, to amend the main control unit CAS and add 6FL so that the car has the option. I will then need to code the specific control unit to active similar to the changes in the youtube video here

[u2b]https://youtu.be/xT0B0v_1uyM[/u2b]

Can anyone confirm if these assumptions are correct please?

I have a 04/2007 E90 with Professional radio head unit, no iDrive/Navigation, no PDC, but it does have built-in Bluetooth and USB in the center console.

All I want to do is get the newer "gong" sound. Do do this, do I just need to get a newer radio head unit and change the one line in the KOMBI module?

I found a 2010 unit for pretty cheap.
