If you have to share the driveway with a mini-van, I think you deserved the right to treat yourself to the COBB

Really personal preference... Some people stick w/ Stock, others like Linear & others (specifically MT drivers) use Alternate. Linear has been designed w/ AutoX/Tracking in mind since the amount of throttle pressure being applied directly translates to how much engine power you'll be requesting (25% throttle = 25% power, 100% throttle = 100% power).

I started with ST and haven't had a reason to try anything else so far. I've been driving turbo cars for 25 years, though, so I'm very used to the big torque spike when boost comes on. I don't even think about the turbo driving style where you floor it by default and then ease out as necessary when the boost comes on any more.

ST, used linear for a week and it felt boring around the town. The standard throttle is a whole different animal. Try them both, and see which one you prefer.

I was checking out this link and on step 1 it says to set up the data logging list. My question is what are the main things needed to log in order to reduce unnecassary clutter when graphed but to make sure I capture the main items?

Question

Whats up guys I got a serious NOOB question. Will the Auto trans be able to handle the torque the Cobb AP produces? I think the ZF auto was rated somewhere around 332 ft/lbs tq.

Don't worry, creaminz car has an AT and just got the single-turbo kit and ~700 WHP

So I think you'll be okay.

Its best to just use the default logging list

I have a stock non sport e93 step w/o oil cooler--can I still safely run a Cobb? Also does the Cobb tune increase wear and tear on the engine? Basically I'm trying to find out what are the negatives to having a Cobb ap tune for my car?

Yes you can safely run the AP. However, you will severely limited in your ability to track your car on the road course. If you're not into that kind of thing you probably won't have any issues.

And yes, you are increasing wear on the engine. Anytime you increase power output you increase strain on mechanical parts. The parts most likely to be affected are plugs, coils, and injectors. However, those are all routine maintenance parts and should be replaced routinely anyway. Anything else is a crap shoot, really.

Buying new you get a grace period in which you can return the AP, if the power doesn't outweigh the risks then you can return it. I don't think you'll be returning it

Yes, you can run the COBB tune w/o the oil cooler. I see that you live in the Northeast so luckily you don't have to worry about excessive heat year round. If you do plan on tracking your car (drag strip or autocross), I'd recommend that you buy an aftermarket oil cooler.

The minute you increase the performance on the car, the wear and tear is going to increase. As long as you stay informed about the mechanical components, reading codes, and actively maintain the car you'll be fine. IMO, COBB is the best tune all around tune. It comes from a company that's made its reputation on quality aftermarket performance mods (most recently w/ their time-attack GTR), offers the simplicity of flashing the performance settings right through the OBD port (so you'll never have to open the engine), and you'll never have to pay for new/updated maps, even if you continue to mod your car.

Downsides to the COBB??? Maybe that that 1) there aren't any meth maps right now (but you can get around this by using a meth system that self-manages, like Snow Performance) and 2) you're going catch the mod bug instantly and become uncontrollably power hungry

The torque is what's really killer, and Shiv had to specifically dial in that kit for AT. And not that it still isn't impressive as hell, that's a 58mm build and not pushing 700rwhp. Last, but most important, it's only been on for less than a week (and tuned for just a couple days), so that doesn't shed a whole lot of light on how long it will last.
