Throttle body
Does the butterfly valve in your throttle body close completely or is there a small gap? Mine has a very small gap, I can push it closed completely but it moves back to a slightly open position. Normal?

While the above statement is accurate, most TBs rely on another part, IAC (Idle Air Control) to handle that task in a much more precise manner than just leaving the TB butterfly open partially. All of that said, I am pretty new to BMW and not sure what metering system they use.

The throttle body on the n52 is nothing more than a back up system. During normal operation idle is controlled by the valvetronic system. As long as the throttle body opens up fully during operation it will be fine.
There is no idle control valve as there use to be on older BMWs. It wouldnt work because there is no vacuum on this motor. Vacuum is created by a pump connected to the timing chain.
