Low coolant light!!!
So as I started up to go to work this AM I noticed the low coolant light/warning on the dash. Never had this happen before so wanted to head to the dealer to get it topped off.
Curious, should I be extra cautious and remove the SSTT or just leave it in? Thanks guys!! |

Just top it up with distilled water, you'll be fine.

Have the dealer top it off.
or just put water in it. If it happens again, have the dealer check for leaks.

Don't put water in it, buy the pre-mixed fluid from BMW and top it off.

- put water - put BMW coolant. They did stress the "Do not add other non BMW coolant" When I opened the reservoir, it was EMPTY so I took the car to the dealer. They top it off and asked me to keep an eye on it in case there was a leak. They said it does evaporate and that it was normal.

Now that it's cold, you'll see a few more posts like yours. Nothing to worry about, just top it off. Try a search, and you'll see that as the weather got cold last year, there were a few similar posts. Only worry if you have to do this often.

I had the same coolant low icon a couple of weeks ago and I just topped it off with pre-mixed Prestone atinfreeze/coolant and no problem since. also checked to see if the level of fluid has gone down but it is still the same after two weeks. No big deal.

You put non-BMW approved fluids in your 335i, your car is toast.

nice thanks for the advice!! going to buy coolant tomorrow, it happened again this AM but it only happens in the AM, once the cars warmed up I guess coolant flows back into the overflow reservoir so it doesnt see it as 'low'.

I had this issue last month. Took it in to the dealer and the coolant overflow reservoir had a crack in it. The dealer replaced it with a new one under warranty. I wouldn't put off having it checked for too long.
