Turning the horn chirp on/off?

I am a new E90 owner. I have a 2009 328I XDrive with Navigation/IDrive and Comfort Access. When I lock or unlock the car with the key fob, the doors lock/unlock and the lights flash, but there is no confirming horn chirp. I can find no setting for activating this feature. Has BMW done away with the chirp, or is my car defective, or is there a setting that I am not seeing. I know that my car has the alarm system installed (I set it off accidentally last week).

You need the alarm to have a chirp.

And if your 09 was built after March, you probably aren't prewired for the alarm and therefore can't have one.

If you have the alarm, you can get the dealer to turn on the chirp

Now that is a bit disappointing. Is the chirp off by default on all E90's? Does the dealer need to dial into the computer programing to effect the change?

No. You need the alarm. The programming is only if you installed the alarm yourself, at which point you would need to bring it to the dealer to activate the alarm to get the chirp and ultrasonic sensor working.

You should sell your chirp.

So, if I have the factory installed alarm, what does the dealer service do to turn the chirp on??

I purchased my '09 E90 as an exec demo with 2800 miles, so I am not the original owner. The sticker that came off my car indicates "Alarm pre-wiring...Included" which suggests that the car did not come from factory with the alarm installed. However, last week I inadvertently set off an alarm with horn blarring and lights flashing. This suggests that the alarm was dealer installed. Right???

That doesn't sound like an OEM alarm... BMW's alarm has a high pitched siren kind of sound, it doesn't sound the horn.

Yes, it wasn't originally there from factory, but they added it after.

Well it wasn't a duck call. The horn was going blahhhh....blahhhh...blahhh in time with the corner lights and head lights. Sounded like the alarm behavior we've all gotten so used to ignoring when we hear it go off in a shopping center parking lot. If that wasn't the car alarm what was it?

This is what a BMW (as well as Mercedes) alarm sounds like. It is a wail.
