I just did this over the weekend. Great instructions. One question: on 2008 E92, fuse 7 is next to a 5 amp fuse and the fuse tap does not go all the way in. It feels very loose and like it is about to fall out. When I tried it in a spot with no fuses in next slot, it felt like it clicked in. I'm afraid that it will come out after some bumpy drives. Any suggestions? Is #7 the only place for it on 2008 models?

I used fuse 7, and I simply flipped the fuse tap so it wasn't facing the plastic protrusion. I have no issues with power and I am satisfied with the clean install. The most "difficult" part is getting the wire stuffed properly. I removed the A-pillar so I could run the wire next to the airbag. It looks like there's nothing there!

I just finished my V1 hardwire through the fusebox & the concealed module in the ashtray. I used fuse slot #6 (start/stop) & no issues at all. Thank you all for the great DIY & suggestions!

Another successful install here, thanks again to everyone who has contributed to this thread. IMHO this is way easier and nicer looking then the direct wire into the headlamp.

Is the power cord the same as telephone cable?

I need to do a hard wire setup for my bike and I will buy the
direct wire power adapter(20305), but not sure if I need to buy their
power cable (20311).

So. I just did this install, and now I have a bulb out warning (I believe).

My Check Control shows me an upside-down bulb with the "problem" lines emmiting from it.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Problem Solved! Though I had tried about 20 different fuses, I changed it again, and it works now flawlessly.

I just wanted to thank everyone for contributing so much to this topic. I just finished my hardwire V1 install and everything went great. Big thumbs up to everyone that contributed.

just me?

Hmm, so I tried to follow the directions as listed in the previous pages...
1. mounted v1
2. ran cord pushed up through headliner, zip tied behind airbag, down trim and through to glove compartment.
3. wired up add-a-fuse with 2 fuses and put it in fuse 07
4. grounded to torx bolt.

However, when I powered on the car, not only did the valentine not power up, but neither did the homelink mirror. I tried flipping the direction of the add-a-fuse and swapping the fuse positions but nothing changed. Thinking maybe something more serious was wrong, I put the fuse back in to the fuse box without the add-a-fuse, and now the homelink mirror doesn't even power on. I've tried multiple fuses thinking I may have broken one, but the homelink mirror still does not get power. All the other electronics like the dome lights, SOS button, etc are still receiving power.

Any ideas? Did I break something?

Thanks!

---------------------------
nevermind... note to those that don't pay attention. Homelink mirror doesn't actually turn on till you start the engine.. thus same for the v1

Reminder to all reading this thread and trying to do a fuse-replacement connection:

The e90,1,2,3's do not all have the same fuse block.
See my post here, with an image of my fuse chart and some comments.

Yep i noticed this tonight when i was trying to install my V1 in my 08 E90. The fuse block is different than my 07 335i was.

So which fuse to tap into then? Right now I have the add-a-fuse in slot 63 thats suppose to be for the homelink/PDC but the V1 is staying on. Doesnt turn off when i turn the car off.

Hmm.

Try fuse #7. This also happened to me when I tap into #63

I tried fuse 7 but the problem is that the add-a-fuse wont go in all the way since there is a plastic part on the fuse block next to fuse 6.

The plastic got into my way also on the left hand side. Right? I turn the tap the other way.

Funny, just installed a V1 for my buddy today in his 135i and used Fuse #7 as well. For anyone having problems with the fuses in the add-a-circuit getting in the way, you can also bend the fuses up once they are installed.

another V1 got hardwired.
I used #63 first. the problem was my car won't response to my remote control.
I then had to lock the car using the "real key" because it was late in the night.
the next morning I tried #7. just like what 1ne said, fuses are now pointing to the passenger side.
then, my remote control took control of the car immediately.
there's no other problems now. perfect!

BTW, suggest that all 3er in year 08 should use #7.

Does the concealed display fit in the ashtray area with no modifications? Do you happen to have a pic of it installed?

Thanks.

It's really not a good idea to recommend any "Fuse Number", since people don't read all the threads, and would learn it might not apply to them. Better to say: Use the fuse chart and find the number of the fuse that serves your cigarette lighter, or PDC/HomeLink.

(On left is the symbol for the Cig Lighter circuit, on the right is the PDC / HomeLink circuit.)

I used fuse #5 - nothing listed for it on the fuse chart - it was open. Put a 2 amp fuse in the Add-a-fuse top slot furthest from the blades. Pushed the Add-a-fuse in to the #5 slot with the fuse pointing left. Fit snug and nothing was in its way. Grounded to torx screw as suggested.

Started the car and the 8500 came on fine. Turned the car off and it went off. I don't have homelink (no premium package).

UPDATE: Drove the car to work and back today and the 8500 worked perfectly. It is currently mounted above the left hand side of the rear-view mirror (no homelink). It doesn't look like the sensor is in the blue strip at the top of the windshield but I'll keep an eye on it. I have enough cord to mount the 8500 just below the rear-view mirror.
