Tune only, I dyno'd at around 320hp. What's wrong with his claim?

The stuff is bold is my issue, I have no issues with 320 WHP, 390 crank HP sounds so damn high for Stage 1 Aggressive

I hit 334whp on stage 1, 276 baseline which would be 392 and 324 crank respectively, assuming 15% drivetrain loss, seems reasonable

I think he was estimating based on drivetrain loss. He's probably within 10hp realistically based on 15% drivetrain loss. Not to mention, it has been proven that the N54 HP/TQ numbers are underrated from BMW.

Well if it adds up, good deal. Just not used to hearing Stage 1 numbers that high or even contemplating crank #s in general

Probably because nobody quotes crank numbers. It does seem high but when you crunch ESTIMATED drivetrain loss numbers, he isn't too far off.

That's a nice increase. Mine put down 279 stock and 329 with Stage 1 on a Mustang Dyno.

I baselined at 280whp/300wtq and on stage 1 aggressive I made 330whp/380wtq. Some ATR FBO+meth map numbers coming next week.

Thanks in advance.
As I talk to more and more locals who've dyno'd, I'm beginning to think those numbers are inflated.

My dyno was on a dynojet, NOT a Mustang which typically reads lower. Granted it was hot out, but I put down 344WHP/387. First that's SAE, which is really how you should rate it. A lot of people seem to be quoting STD, which is not as commonly used. Mine was 351/395 on STD. However, I have Stage 2+ with VRSF downpipes and ETS 5" FMIC. Yes, no full turbo-back exhaust, but I have a really hard time believing that it'd actually gain more than MAYBE 12WHP...and probably closer to 8 or 9WHP. I understand different downpipes and different FMIC's may product more horsepower, but I doubt it's 15WHP more just by a particular combination.

So yes it was hot, but we had a good fan running and I doubt it would have increased the horsepower by more than maybe 10WHP. So with an exhaust and maybe cooler air, perhaps 22WHP more? That's 373 if I was rating STD. And that's still not on a Mustang which would rate lower.

I'm confused how Stage 2+FMIC without E85 or meth are getting the numbers people are posting. The only locals I know who are posting big gains over mine have both meth and E85 and that can make a huge difference(low 400's easy, even mid 400's with a more aggressive tune).

Every dyno is different which is why a baseline is so important. People put way too much importance on dyno number (myself included sometimes).

+1
Different dynos read different and without a baseline the numbers themselves are pointless. Dynos should be used as a tuning aid and to verify power gains. It seems a lot of people don't understand that.

^^^ not to be off topic but my baseline was 230whp on a dyno dynamics, aka heartbreaker. I guess my point is there are a lot of variables. I know I am a noob, but all I am concerned with is the delta. I'm happy with what I got and as long as my logs are good I am good.

Edit: S1+ aggressive delta in a couple weeks.

Noob question.. my baseline was in Feb. Should the baseline be within the same day of the upgrade? My delta test will be the same dyno same shop.

As long as the dyno is conducted in similar conditions its OK. If it is done in different conditions then that's what the SAE correction comes in. Using the correction factor roughly keeps things equal. Assuming your Feb dyno was SAE corrected and your new dyno are SAE corrected then it should be pretty fair.

Find out which ECU you have, follow the install steps provided with the AP or download it on COBB website.
http://www.cobbtuning.com/AccessPORT...s/bmw/bmw-grid

then take a look at their chart. it specifically specifies which mod you need to run as well as octane level. Read the Maps notes for further detail.

The minute you increase the performance on the car, the wear and tear is going to increase. As long as you stay informed about the mechanical components, reading codes, and actively maintain the car you'll be fine. IMO, COBB is the best tune all around tune. It comes from a company that's made its reputation on quality aftermarket performance mods (most recently w/ their time-attack GTR), offers the simplicity of flashing the performance settings right through the OBD port (so you'll never have to open the engine), and you'll never have to pay for new/updated maps, even if you continue to mod your car.

Downsides to the COBB??? Maybe that that 1) there aren't any meth maps right now (but you can get around this by using a meth system that self-manages, like Snow Performance) and 2) you're going catch the mod bug instantly and become uncontrollably power hungry
What if you're running their most aggressive OTS maps, such as Stage 2+ Aggressive, and you drive it regularly, like shifting at 2500rpm - 3500rpm. Is the wear and tear the same as if the car wasn't tuned?

Just a few questions before I go ahead and order my AP. How does the car feel when driving normally? Is there any increased lag because of the higher boost pressure? Is there still surging or has that been taken care of by Cobb?

Thanks in advance.
