Nope. Real 6 layers of pre-preg carbon fiber, and a clear coat on top. The company that I work for, makes composites parts for aircraft, so I have access to all composite materials.
The first peace is always harder to do but If I do another it will fair easy. I was going to do a DIY guide but I figured not everyone has access to materials, vacuum, +350F oven, .... I made a shit of carbon fiber (6 layers). For this I used a thick aluminum shit as base and vacuum bagged it at 29 inches mercury. Oven cured it under full vacuum for 2 1/2 hour at +300F. Then I used the old plastic license plate frame as a tensile and traced it on top of the carbon fiver shit that I had just made. Used some tools from the shop to cut it, sent to the paint department and a buddy of mine gave it a clear coat .

The thing is that it is very time consuming to do the first part. If the part you want to make is not flat, you have to create a tool/mold of the that part first and that's a lot of work to just make one part and not use it anymore.

Thanks guys. here are some shots..
By the way, have you guys used Mothers Synthetic Wax? It is great and the easiest to apply/remove. Only one coat and it shines..

nice clean job! so lucky you have access to cf and the equipment to mold/cut/cure/clear/etc everything!! I made a cf splitter sheet once and damn that shit was time consuming and difficult... especially when doing it in a garage with no equipment hahah
just fyi, next time you make more cf stuff, try to keep the weave clean and diagonal. right now the "diagonal weave" ended up going vertical so it's sorta awkward looking.
