N55 vs. N54 In the market for an E90 again.

Alright so I had an 09 E90 with the N54 engine and loved it. Now looking to get back into it but was wornder maybe to go with the N55. But the most important thing to me is tune-ability. The N54 sure has ALOT of bang for your buck mods.

What have you guys noticed with the N55? Can it put down the same power for the same amount of m/oney? What upgrades have you guys done? w/m, tune, dp, exhaust, big turbo??

How much power are you looking to make?

The N54 has a lot more options as far as tuning, and modifications.

The N55 does not have an upgraded turbo options yet, while the N54 does.

In my personal opinion, I would seek out an N54, without hesitation.

I'm looking for a good amount of power. If I got a N54 again, I would do all the mods, other than turbos, for now... so, tune, intake, fmic, dp, exhaust, e85, w/m... Now does a N55 with those same mods put down the same kind of power as N54?

Get a N54!

The N55 is however much more reliable compared to the N54...

And if you wait some time, the N55 wil have some more to tune aswell

Ummm...the N55 is going to be in the F30 as well...(335).

I went from a 2008 E90 N54 to a 2011 E90 N55, and traded that in a couple months ago for a 2012 335is. I love the N54 motor and its tune-ability.

The N55 will probably come along soon though.

I have a n55 e90, and its ok. For more tuner friendlyness, go n54.

I just don't like the fact that the n54 has a lot of issues..but when it runs good, it's insane from youtube videos I've see. N55=390rw with meth n54 = 430rw on just E85 Dynojet.

the N55 may have just cracked 400rwhp (423rwhp to be exact) with a 40% ethanol mixture. I'm hoping details will be posted shortly (source www.n54tech.com)

N54 will make more power with the same mods at this point in time. I much prefer the sound of the N55 over N54 though, so much deeper and less raspy

Honestly I had an N54 for 2 years and sadly it got lemoned. The dealer couldn't fix the car for 2 months it sat at the dealer. It had no performance modifications except for an Injen DCI. I had problem after problem with that car since the day I bought it.

My N55 with JB4, Injen, and a CP. Has been running smoothly and I'm the type of person who doesn't care too much about numbers. So the reliability of my N55 is good for me.

the n54 is not unreliable at all... everyone is spoiled around here... we can count on one hand the amount of motors that popped with 1,000s of clueless end users...

who cares if you need a hpfp once every two years, its warrantied... your wastegates rattle? Whore cares? Go get a loaner and they fix it...

tranny and motor are rock solid

its so irrational to say that n54 is unreliable... it may be the most reliable engine I have ever owned
