I agree. Engineering really isn't worth it unless you're passionate about it.
If all you want to do is make money, don't do Engineering.

People doing liberal arts, communications, etc. majors clearly do not care much about $

That or if they're lucky, they can label themselves as Senior Administrative Specialist in HR

Speaking of academics, best of luck when the professor whips out partial differential equations and you've only had two semesters of calculus.

A masters in engineering is meant to be the first half of the road to a Phd in engineering. It's not a watered down route. And it certainly isn't designed like an MBA school where different people from different backgrounds merge together. Whether or not you go the entire route and get a PhD is entirely up to you, but the classes you'll be taking as a masters student are that same exact classes that the Phd students take. The only difference is that they'll be taking more of them for a longer time and they'll be writing a thesis. Math-wise and material-wise they're the same academically. It's generally understood that anyone sitting in the masters level classes has a BS engineering background. I can't speak for the crappy fly-by-night schools like University of Phoenix, but any decent engineering school with a decent reputation is set up the way I described. They're geared towards research. I know from firsthand experience. I have a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University and a masters in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, two highly recognized engineering schools in the country.

unless you're a badass who invents something like google or post-its, engineering life is an ongoing problem set in a cubicle. if you're lucky you'll move into some sort of management position (a life of meetings and status updates). the ceiling's pretty damn low.

why do so many engineers go back for an mba? because for the most part, it's a tough career: all the brains and sweat, management takes the credit

Thanks for all the responses y'all.

What if I just pursue a MBA or Masters in Supply Chain Management since its closely related to IE? And it'll help in my favor since I won't need any catching up to do?

^^^LOL I hate that show

I wanted to do industrial engineering, it's actually quite different from the rest engineering degrees. It's more business oriented. Hence, that's why I'm asking if I should go with plan B which is Supply Chain Management/Operations Management.

You think I'm kidding you!
I'm fucking trying to save your sorry ass and i don't even freaking know you!
Do not go to engineering school!
If you are a heterosexual man who wants to get laid EVER why would you do this to your self?

Now if you are into men...nothing wrong with that...
Or if you are into fucking ugly chubby well built women...lots wrong with that...
And do you want to make sub par money?

Why would you want to be an engineer!
Sure I make $100k but shit man I'm at the top of my freaking game!
The moment the economy heats up what do you think this BMA with a six sigma black belt is going to do?

GET HER SORRY ASS OUT OF ENGINEERING! I'LL BE OFF LIKE A PROM DRESS!

Dude don't do engineering school! Unless you are near eastern or far eastern have no interest in getting any ass and want to make piss poor money!

So he looked like this and she looked like this?
You sure it wasn't two gay guys or two lesbians?
Well it's engineering so...two lesbians?

Don't feel bad for them, odds are they graduated in under 2 months they were promoted to upper middle management and are now making $100k a year.

Engineering women are like women in mens supermax prison.
Regardless if she has a vag or not or any talent....she will be pushed up fast and hard!

So you get made fun of in all other threads so you come bash mine?GTFO of here. I was simply asking for an opinion by NOT going to Engineering school but rather getting a MBA in the concentrations above. So stop your stupid rant, and don't try to bash me with your dumb comments. I don't need you, to save my "ass." And read what I write before you actually reply.

Thanks.

Ehhhh....god...well....aaahh....looks like the guy got lucky! Got the only single girl in the entire engineering department.
But isn't that like saying you got the least oldest least chewed piece of gum from the floor of the movie theater?

I have no idea why any one would ever consider going for engineering right now. The return on investment...both in capital and in time is just not worth it. Sure if you are near Eastern or far Eastern and you want your mom to brag to her cousins about how smart you are sure!
But then again she might as well be looking for a graduation wife for you as well.

Nah, as a hedge fund manager once put it while i was having a drink with a friend on stoner Street in NYC...
"the worst paid engineer here in the us makes 10 times what the best paid PhD Engineer makes in China....so why hire in the US?"

Sure if you get a job for FedEx or one of the big oil companies or maybe pharma...but right now...engineering not be looking so good.
Companies are making more money off their investments and pushing people to do more with less than they are from their innovations.
And by the time things do turn around.....hell it's the easiest job in the world to outsource.
Math is math be it here, china or vietnam or india. hell you don't even have to have an engineer who speaks english...it's just numbers.

And to think you are out easily $25k+ a year for the education, 80 hours + for the studies and have lowered your standards where you are making out with some fugly thing in the library?

Ask your self is it worth it?

Hell no! Get an MBA be a money retirement manager move to Florida or AZ and make good money off of old folks and live the good life!

PM's can be found in all types of industries. In regards to PM of technical fields, most people were promoted from an engineering type position (with engineering degrees).

I "only" have an ME degree, but have surpassed many in my company who have undergrad and graduate business degrees due to the type of work that occurs in my company (automotive).

OP, if you want to go into a very technical industry, the engineering degree will definitely help. If you are a PM for a internet promotions company making online ads, anybody with a degree and strong organizational skills will succeed.

I was accepted into an Engineering Master's program without a B.S. in Engineering (related field at least). I believe this was mainly attributed to me working for BAE Systems titled as a "Systems Engineer" and SMU wanting my $.
