ZWP ... kind of.

With all the bashing I see regarding the headlight washers, why are more people not just ordering the folddown rear and heated seats? Granted, it is only an additional $25 but everyone says that it is a waste/mess and there are even threads of people disabling or working around the HWS setup.

I just changed my order from ZWP to what I mentioned above and am wondering if this is mistake.

I have thought about ordering my car this way also just because I hate the way the squares look on the front bumper.

the headlight washers are standard on the 330xi. Are they only activated when the lights go on? I haven't gotten my car yet. Just checking of they work the same way as my Audi

This is a good post. I did order just the folding seats and heated seats options. When I told my CA to order the car this way, he suggested ordering the CWP. I said “I do not want the headlight sprayers making a mess on my car. He did not even question my decision. He new it was a good choice.

exactly, headlight washers were a big turn off for me too. i still don't get its function. if i'm already getting all the snow off of my car, why would i leave the headlights all messed up? and i don't think it ever happened to me that i had to stop while driving because my headlights got so messy i couldn't see the road. i think it's simply useless.

i should have gotten the fold-downs though

The only thing is that saying use have the full Cold Weather Package may help resale. Otherwise, I agree with the other posters than those headlight washers are not worth $25.

I had planned on doing it that way ... but I wanted a car in transit and it was spec'd by the dealer with CWP. I didn't get a choice.

They can be useful if you have some ice on your headlights and you want to clear it quickly with the deicer in the reservoir. Also if your lights get salty from the road, then it dries, a quick "wash" removes a lot of the residue.

I had them on my e46, and all they were good for was eating up all my washer fluid.

too much washer fluid spent with the headlight washer... but I kinda like having it because it probably IS lighter after it washes off a certain amount of dust. IMO

There's ONE reason to want them, and one only - if you live in a snowy/icy climate and have xenons. Xenon bulbs don't burn as hot as regular halogen bulbs, and as result won't melt ice/snow off your headlights as halogen bulbs can/will. In this case they're a desirable (even necessary) feature to have. In a warm climate, especially without Xenons, they're a complete waste of washer fluid.

As some have stated, if the light switch is at the 0 position, they won't squirt. Probably not a great idea to turn your headlights off oni a dark country road when needing to use the windshield washer. Damn things should have better override capability.
