3 Stage Manifold on 328i Finally Done

So after 6 months of getting the parts and saving for the 3-stage manifold I finally got it done. Thanks to Gavin and Stevie at SSmotorsports it wasn't easy as pull the old one and slap in the new one like the 325i guys can do.

Gavin and I spent alot of time trying to figure this out. And all I can say it DAMN, now i know why Gavin is the man when it comes to working on my car and BMW's. Gavin know his shit for getting things done. I wish i could afford the headers to go with this, my car would be a rocket.

It took about 3 days of working all the bugs out and making time at the shop for Stevie and Gavin to get it done. All i can say if anyone wants to do the 3-stage on the 328i there is some parts that you need that the 325i and 330i come with that we don't have. And are not listed on the 3-stage manifold forum. Also there is one part that had to be custom made by Stevie at SSmotorsports to make this work, I'm not really sure, all i know is he did it and that is all that matters.

As for was it worth it? Hell yes, it feels like a different car. I have had the manifold in the car for 3 days now and its seems like the car has really adapted to it. Each day i drive it, it feels better and more solid. I love how the car feels. You can really feel the pull and notice a big difference. I'm not even running the OE Tune or AA Tune which I will get done sometime in the future. The Powerbox works great with the manifold and helps it perform.

Overall if you want your 328i to perform at the highest level just do the manifold and you will be happy.

Damn, I was hoping it'd be easier than that. Perhaps a tune would've put you in a really close place for a fraction of the cost =/

Oh well, congrats! Dyno time.

So I'm interested in doing this for my 28i, but I don't know what parts I need. Do you have that information?

Would also like to know more information on what exactly had to be done for the to be purebred. Hopefully Gavin will chime in for a full write up!

What extra part are you talking about? A local member in my area just installed this on his 328 yesterday and didn't need any "extra" parts.

Please provide more details around this.

Same here. VERY curious to know. Except for the vent hose, I really dont see what you could be talking about.

Possible to take any pictures of the custom made part?

Gavin, Can you explain the "extra" parts that the op is saying.

Would have been nice if the op could write the details instead of just saying "it's not as easy at it looks"!!!

I still don't think extra parts are required. But waiting to hear the answers.

Ditto! We all also want to see the dyno results to compare what kind of gains the 3 stage would get us compared to a tune and/or headers.

Sorry didn't mean to leave everyone hanging, but had to get the information for you guys and put it together.

1. The vent hose I got for the 330i manifold is useless I spent $80 for nothing. it didn't connect or fit to the manifold. After reading the diagram for the manifold and Oil collector, I didn't need it.

2. The Mystery parts, since the vent hose didn't work, the vent hose that connects to the stock manifold from the motor had Y connection and the 3-Stage Manifold had one hose that connected from the oil collector to the vent hose. Well this hose that came from the oil collector could only connect to the original vent hose that came from the motor. So we had to disconnect the Y connection from behind the back of the top part of the motor and run the one connection to the hose from the oil collector on the manifold. But it didn't connect for some reason and there is no other parts to buy that would connect. So Stevie at SSMotorsports had to make it fit for me and customize it.

3. As far as the extra parts go. There was a hose that I had to get that connects to the bottom of the oil collector, and then I had to get a dip stick that connects to that hose and then the dip stick connects to the oil pan.

I will have to pull the part numbers and will get that information for you guys. But all I can say is after 4 days now. My car is adapting well to the manifold and is the shit. Its like a rocket and kicks ass. It was worth every penny.

Siiick man! I just got this done couple days ago at Speestar too took 4-5 hours max for them but the result was amazing! Which tune are you leaning towards to compliment with this system?

so the 3 stage manifold had only one vent hose connection, instead of 2 like the stock manifold?

if that is the case, it means you got an E60 5 series manifold instead of a 3 series manifold. I had both of them side by side and they were exactly the same except for the number of vent hose connections.

Or are you saying you re-used the oil separator (softball thing under the manifold)? the 328i has this built into the valve cover so you don't use it at all with the new intake manifold, you should just connect the 328i vent hose directly to the manifold, and bypass it all together.
