Tow truck bottomed out my car

So this has been a horrible morning, I started my car today and i had a rough idle which means i have either a bad fuel injector or a coil went bad but the problem cleared up after a minute in my driveway so i decided to go to work then take it to the dealership after. Well about 10 minutes into my drive i get the half engine symbol with a flashing SES light so i pulled over and used bmw assist to get a tow to the local dealer.

Well when the guy was loading my car i was calling my boss and others at work to let them know I'd be late so I didnt see if anything happened. When he was unloading the car i was walking towards it and it looked like he bottomed out my front bumper pretty good but he was gone before i could confirm this. I didnt get the chance to check the car before I left the dealership because i was in a rush to get to work and forgot like a moron so im going to shoot over at lunch or after work and check my bumper for damage.

Is there anything i can do if my front bumper is scraped up bad? I dont particularly care about the underside of the bumper as long as its not visible because it had scrapes from the previous owner bottoming it out i guess.

Can I make a complaint to BMW and get this corrected since they provided the tow or am i screwed at this point because I didnt make a big deal about it at the time it happened?

If it's on the bottom, you can always cover the damage with a front lip. Exactly what I did lol. Can't see any of the scrapes.

^ well i suppose that is an option. I was more wondering if I complained when i went to pick up my car would it do anything or would i be screwed if theres more than underside damage?

One would think tow truck drivers would be more careful....

You do mean he put it on a flatbed, right, at which point it scraped, maybe as it was being winched up onto the bed?

Not sure what you can do, they always seem to get out of everything. What if it's not physically possible to not scrape the air dam, given the flatbed, and the design of our car? I would have to say he's off the hook, unless he were negligent...but it's an uphill battle...good luck.

^ one would think but considering all he did was nothing but talk about how crappy BMW's are since he picks them up all the time and how he purposely damaged people's cars that pissed him off i dont think he really cared about my car all too much. I didnt see him winch it up onto the flatbed only him reversing at a pretty good pace off the truck and my front end scrape the flatbed on the way down. I fear you may have a point though as i have the M-Sport package so thats even more they can use against me as my car already has low clearance.

Well i ended up driving to the dealership during my lunch and told them my concerns about the tow truck possibly damaging my car and how it had slipped my mind before in my rush to get to work. The service rep seemed very helpful and said he'd have the mechanics check the undercarrage for damage then when it was running I could go over the car with the service manager to make sure everything is ok in my eyes.

This is my first time dealing with an issue like this with this dealership though so we will find out how it works out. I dont have the highest hopes as it is a stealership but if I have to I'll complain to BMW of North America until I get this solved as it was their tow truck through BMW assist and if he indeed does do this all the time he should be able to tow a BMW without doing damage to one.

Thanks for the feedback guys ill keep you posted.

At least there was a flat bed .... He could have winched it up, hook it and then dragged it all the way back to the dealership .......

a professional towing company would use wood planks for clearance.

Had this happen to me. Call BMW right away! BMW will make the claim against the tow company and will revert your case to another company. they then will offer you a repair to anywere or cash settlement. BMW makes it easy though! hope all is well.

Thanks! I'm picking up my car tomorrow (had all my fuel injectors replaced) so ill look at it and if I'm unhappy ill call BMW of North America and put in a claim against the company. Thanks for the advice. The dealership is having the mechanic that is working on my car take pictures of the bumper and undercarriage so I have them since I told them I saw him bottom out my car. I'm starting to have hope.
