Broke a Half Shaft today
Just got my car towed to FFTEC, as I blew up my drivers side (left) half shaft, I am hoping there is a not any collateral damage.
I would assume if only one half shaft broke, the car would still move to one side? I have a wavetrac LSD in the car, and was doing a 1st to 2nd gear rolling start, not even a launch. That Vishnu Flexfuel kit is no joke. I will hopefully have more updates and pictures for you guys shortly. Just another data point that even guys with LSD's and DO NOT drag snap these half shafts.

Unfortunately I'm running only 245's on the rear and on the front I'm running some harder winter tires for the rain, but spring time i'll switch over to some PSS's

I couldn't get a pic underneath the car while it was sitting in traffic, but there was grease all over the inside of the wheel barrel and NO MOVEMENT when the car was in gear, just the sound of broken rotating half shaft

I can't point to the exact issue, but I think it was most likely replacing Bank 2 injectors for my bank2 misfires.

I honestly think the stock Drive Shafts are ok for Street assuming you resolve any wheel hop issues. I think Toe Arms are in my near future. In order to get DSS, I need working DriveShafts to be sent in, so I will be going with stock replacements and looking into Toe Arms to assist in the Toe Hop Issue.
It's the wheel hop shock jolting our DriveShafts into submission, because I remember spinning out 1st gear than droping right into 2nd gear, and I think I regained traction abruptly thus tearing apart my half shaft.

Also, I don't think DSS needs working axles. They replace the bar and the CVs. Source: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426061 Quote:

Also the big thing about going with DSS's is I need the car ASAP and don't have the flexibility to wait for DSS to rebuild my halfshafts.

I see. I would say there wouldn't have been much wheel hop if it broke immediately.
What makes you think the half shafts themselves are not the root cause? With 100% e85, you should be making around 450 ft lbs. of rwtq, right? That like a 60% increase from stock. |

Damn you got towed but please next time use a flat bed bro. I cringe when I see those front tow hitched tow trucks being used.
