Also BMW stated that the 446 is the same as the 933 which has failed several times.

Dropped my car off at 6pm Wednesday, it was ready next day in the morning.

They switched out the HPFP and reprogrammed the car. Did an oil change and changed the plugs.

-Starts up with less cranks
-Car drives a lot smoother
-Car shifts harder - transmission seems to be switchin nice and hard for you feel a 'jerk'.
-Better gas mileage

Interesting ... are the fuel injectors in the 07-08 335i any different from the '09-10?

So I was just contacted by my service dept. about the HPFP recall. I have not had any long cranks and car seems to be running fine. Should I get it done, or stay away?

Also, I recently got JB4 installed - if I bring it in for the recall, do I just need to leave it on Map 0 and not worry about it?

You decide, see the recall letter language:

Nothing to worry about, what you're hearing is the low pressure pump priming the fuel system. It should only make that noise for a couple of seconds. Completely normal and part of the update.

Are the new pumps the "solution"?

I'm having my pump replaced as we speak. The Service Advisor assures me that these "new pumps from Germany" are the solution - that none have failed since they started using them. I've skimmed this thread and don't see where any have failed.

Are these truly "new pumps" or a pump with just a different number? has anyone had the "new pump" fail?

I'll find out tomorrow as well because I'm taking my 2007 in for HPFP and Injector recall. Had the software done a month ago and they wouldn't do the HPFP or Injectors at that time. I've never had a problem with my car so if they F it up I may be done with BMW after 13 new ones since 1995.

+1 on Trackrat.
If the s/a doubts it then they can read the SIB because it states in the bulletin that they are interchangeable and have the same improvements

Just took mine in for the "triple" recalls: HPFP, injectors & ECU programming. I was given a 2011 335d loaner. Better throttle response than my 09 & the thing really growls during acceleration. Hope to pick mine up tomorrow.

Got my car back today and they put in the 446 HPFP. They inspected all injectors and none had to be replaced. I have never had a problem with my car but I guess I'm happy the injectors were OK as I would just as soon not have them screw something up that is working. I couldn't tell any difference in performance but I didn't expect any since it was already running good.

Picked up my car this morning. They replaced the HPFP with #446 & replaced 3 injectors with # 261. Also "updated complete vehicle with CAS." Anybody know what CAS is? I noticed the color (Green) of the tire pressure monitor is washed out-not as bright or vivid as before. Otherwise car is running fine.

CAS must be the updated software since I had that done about a month ago.

So at this point no one knows if the 446 is any more reliable than the seven HPFP part numbers that preceded it. Unless the 446 HPFPs fail immediately it will take awhile until people rack up some real miles to determine their reliability.
My HPFP was just replaced today...had the recall performed on Feb 21, 2011
