Well I finally pick up my new baby this Wednesday

As I will only drive my car once or twice a week I am after a good car cover to help protect it. The car will be kept in a garage but it does get quite dusty still, as I am in a new estate with lots of dirt and no gardens.

Been to Autobarn etc but all the covers were very cheap and looked as if they would scratch all the paint.

Any ideas/recomendations ?

If you want one that fits perfectly, then buy a BMW one, but an AutoOne cover suited me fine when I went overseas, and didn't scratch any paint

Super Cheap Auto have a decent variety for both indoor and outdoor use. The premium indoor one is about $160 I think. Not sure what BMW charges for their cover. Good luck tomorrow. BTW are your personailised euro plates "V-TT-335"? I was looking at that combo back in May last year but decided against it. Might put the money towards the SSTT.

JamieA: I didn't end up getting the car yesterday, the bank stuffed up a transfer that I requested last week, so now it's Wednesday the 19th. One more week after 5 or so months is no bid deal

parisianfox: I had a look at Super Cheap Auto but they all looked poor quality even the $150 ones.

I guess I will have a look at see what BMW charge for one...

I went for small/slimline on the front and standard large Euro on the back. Thinking about it now I should have gone for large Euro on the front as well.

I am sure the slimline will look good at the front, if you change your mind you can order a duplicate for $98.00

I emailed VIC Roads to find out what the cost was in case I changed my mind after purchasing.

WOW - $98 is not much at all! Will see how it looks next week and if I want to change it

Would be nice to have a spare for my wall in the garage anyways

Well had a look at Autobarn and being not happy with the quality of the covers, have ordered one through BMW $313 and specific for my car

As a follow up, the BMW specific car car is PERFECT as you would expect!

Even has dedicated area for the mirrors to go into!

i'd rather keep my car uncovered rather than let the cover leave swirl marks all over my paint...no matter how good the material..it will scratch your paint

even wiping you car with "a litte bit dirty" microfibre towel will leave swirl marks on your paint let alone car cover

the thing about car cover is that each time it is used, it will pick up "some" of the dust from your body panel...this thin layer of dust will make the inner side of the car cover to be rough enough to create swirl marks on the subsequent applications

That is a very good point so thanks!

The need for the car cover is alot less now as I have basically made my garage dust proof and put rubber seals around the sectional door and the roller door and the standard doorway.

Also hosed out the garage and cleaned all surfaces, so it's basically as dust free as it can get.

I think I will keep using the car cover for now as I only plan to drive this car a few times a week.

After my 2nd drive in it last night I really want to use it as my daily driver now, its way to nice to let sleep at home all day!

Yes, it is way too nice to keep her locked up. Eventually the novelty of trying to maintain the car looking brand new 24/7 everyday of the year will wear off. You will find any excuse to drive it. It's not going to depreciate any less by not driving it so you should enjoy it as much as you can. I can understand not wanting to use a "Classic" for daily driving and taking her out seldomly but a new car should be purchased to enjoy.

Well I have been driving it a bit more but still covering it up from dust

It will depreciate faster with the amount of KMS that I travel.

If you have the choice between buying a car with 100,000kms on it vs 40,000kms I know which one would get more $
