Record for Car at Preparation Center
Hey just want to get a feel for how long everyone's cars were at the vehicle preparation center. Can you list the city that your car was picked up at and also how long the car was at the VPC?
My car has been stuck there for around 3 weeks. Thanks

Man that is a long time. Mine was there less than 4 days. I've heard that if the car is at the VPC for an extended period of time, it usually mean that there is damage to the car and they are fixing it. Problem is you'll never know what the damage is since they don't have to report it to you (at least that's what I've read).

Yea thats what I figured. I thought they were replacing the diesel particulate filter cause theres a recall on that but didnt think it would take 3 weeks.

Hey hhkim I'm sorry to hear your car has been delayed for so long. Mine arrived in NYC on Saturday the 17th and I picked it up Friday the 23rd, so nothing unusual there. You should keep pestering your dealer- 3 weeks is a very long time to wait at the prep center, even assuming they're doing some kind recall work (about which I haven't heard anything btw). Not to scare you or anything, but my only guess is that there was some kind of damage during shipping and they're repairing it.
Just keep looking forward to that mountain of torque you'll be riding on |

Probably fixing it if something got damaged on the way over. You should call your CA and find out whats the deal.

I'm starting to think that something is wrong with my car. Such as they forgot to include an option or it suffered body damage in transit. But BMW of Annapolis has been totally inept at handling this matter. Their favorite words are "I don't know". You would think they would know exactly where the car is.

hhkim... i feel your pain. My car has been there almost 4 weeks. The CA has said repeatedly that nothing is wrong with the car since the dealery inventory system doesn't indicate "D" for damage, but another field says "Hold: Repair". (He showed me the screen) All of my follow up questions were basically answered with "I don't know"
Does anyone know the difference on how the car is flagged in the system? Damage > or < 3% threshold? Mechanical repair?

Ok so according to my dealer,
"What we've been told by the transporter who dropped off one shipment this week is that there are thousands of vehicles at the port and not enough drivers to deliver them. The economy has taken it's toll and some independent truckers have lost their contracts." Interesting, but still hard to believe.

can you contact BMWNA and get a straight answer ? the only thing i could say is that it was damaged in shipping however many other cars may require repair work too and this is just delayed. ppp

Yea I called BMWNA and they dont have info after it arrives at the port of exit. The data is then transferred to the dealership's car tracking system. So BMWNA is just as useless as my dealer.
He's been hosing me for quite a while now. 3 weeks ago, he said the car should arrive that week. 2 weeks ago he said the car should arrive sometime last week. And last week he said the car should be in by Tuesday the 27th; which has passed. Sigh...

I got the same response from BMW NA, but if you push them it seems they can have someone contact the dealer on your behalf and get the info you want. I was about to start this process, but then the dealer called to say my car was released to the carrier (4 weeks late).

This way, it will FORCE them to act on it or they will be stuck with that car. Remember, your deposit is 100% refundable. My car was at the prep center for 3 days. Like others have said, when it's there for an extended period, I have heard it took some damage and it's being repaired. Good luck.

My 335d has been at the VPC in NJ for just over 2 weeks now. It's an ED, and I had about a two week wait on my last ED redelivery as well. At least you're not making payments on the car yet!
My SA on Friday said he thinks it may arrive at the dealer (Passport) this week, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Your wait seems way too long. Once it's been released to the carrier, it should be a matter of days, not weeks, especially if we're talking about a trip from Jersey to Maryland. In any case, your dealer should be making more efforts to find out what's going on. "I don't know" should be followed by "but I'll find out."

Mine only took 1-2 days (not sure exactly when it was released). You deserve some answers.

Haha 2-5 days is perfectly normal. 3-4 weeks is not.
hhkim I feel for you. What's going to happen to your eco credit? I assume the dealer would still honor it, if not because they have to then just out of good will for the fact that it took so long. |
