Cic keeps rebooting every 30 seconds:((

Any advice is greatly welcomed guys,
Right it's a 2010 pro nav I drive
Had the car for 18months with no problems until now. It keeps rebooting itself I get the bmw logo radio comes on for 30 secs then the black screen and it all starts again I disconnected the battery no different, I've reset it, still no joy.
I tried deleting the music collection thinking the hard drive might be getting a bit full but it won't even let me delete anything. Help. Cheers tony

Press and hold volume button for 20 seconds and it will reset CIC.
If that does not help, then perhaps something is wrong with your CIC.

Thanks makkan00, yea I've tried that, it still shuts down and reboots continually, when it's on I can briefly get into the music collection /memory available, but it says no information available . I've tried to delete the music and it won't let me so I'm thinking the hard drive is stuffed I've booked it into the stealers for a diagnostic check. £99 for the privelidge! So will hopefully know something on Friday. Wrong time of the year to be spending too.

Good luck. Never heard of this issue before.
Is it business nav or professional nav?

Just an update for anyone who has this problem in the future, the cars been into my local dealer cooper Durham (who I cant praise enough ) and there told me my cic unit is toast.
Gutted as a new one is £800 plus vat plus coding of the new one.
Well I cannot afford that so I'm going to ask them to speak to bmw and see if they think it's acceptable for a 4,1/2 year old car to experience this. It's only done 36k miles. Not fit for purpose in my eyes, Hopefully bmw will be fair with me on this.

It is better if you contact BMW UK directly. Usually you get 50% off the parts but you pay for labour/ coding. It will still go in the vicinity of £500ish.

Thanks makkan00,
I will do mate thanks, the garage said they'll have a word with bmw and ask the question. I'd rather pay £500 or so for a new unit which should have warranty too, than one second hand off flea bay that could also go bad. Cheers tony.

That sucks mate. Had my CIC Idrive scare me before with a kind of red screen of death. Wasn't working for maybe 30 mins. Went to a completely black screen. Couldn't turn it on. Then all of a sudden comes back on one time I restarted the car while sweating like a pig.

Did you ever check the voltage on your battery? Could it just reboot during low voltage etc?

As your mileage is so low get BMW warranty and then claim on it.
Will only cost you your excess then!

Angry iDrive rebooting - is it not a manufacturing fault?

I drive an Active Tourer (64 plate) with ConnectedDrive (aka iDrive). It reboots at regular intervals (about every 45 seconds) whilst the engine is on. The dealer has been kind enough to contact BMW UK on my behalf and get them to contribute 50% towards the unit price only. The repair bill is still circa £1000!!

Facts: BMW has a 'pre-printed' form for collecting background information about the unit's usage. The questions are geared towards understanding what I had done recently that may have triggered these reboots. The very existence of the form clearly demonstrates that BMW is well aware of this fault. In fact, the internet is full of posts referring to this fault.

Am I wrong to categorize this as a manufacturing fault?

BMW is telling me that the 50% contribution is conditional, i.e., I must handover the old unit. Is this fair or even legal? I have already paid for it (the existing faulty unit) when I bought the car.

BMW also tells me that the new replacement unit would be tied to my VIN number and I cannot buy one from the open market. The replacement unit may even be a repaired one. It almost verges on the definition of monopoly and/or anti-competition. In brief, BMW is aware of the manufacturing fault, retrieving used units and then re-selling them with a huge margin because they know BMW owners must come to them. Its a great business model...
