Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone out there with the BavTech diagnostic tool has a write up on the best way to test the MAF. The SES light on my dash board has recently illuminated after performing a reset several times. After scanning codes of 2A2F and 2A2E appeared, I'm starting to suspect that my MAF sensor is malfunctioning due to the K&N replacement filter I installed about 3k miles ago. Is anyone familiar with the normal operating parameters of the MAF sensor? Specifically the which actual values I should monitor.

Up to now I've tried several different things including cleaning the sensor with CRC sensor clean, and performing a reset on the fuel air adaptation, secondary air injection adaptation, air control adaptation, and throttle valve adaptation. That managed to keep the SES light off for about 60 miles, but it has just returned.

Have you tried re-installing the stock air filter?

I'm going to get one soon and try that out. My worry right now is that the sensor is already contaminated with oil.

you can buy mass air flow cleaner, it comes in a spray can like brake cleaner, pull the maf out of the intake and spray it with the cleaner to remove and oil or dirt, then let it dry and re install, it will make a noticeable difference at idle if it was dirty or full of oil

Kevin, thanks for the reply, I tried some MAF sensor cleaner last weekend which may have helped, but the light has now reappeared. I'm going to scan the car again just to check if its the same code.

sorry, i have to admit i didnt read your entire post where you said you cleaned it. did you clean the air filter while you cleaned the maf? and did you snug down the maf bolts so there is no air leak where it meets the intake plumbing?

Switched back to the stock air filter today. We'll see what happens.

Quick update to this situation: I took my car to the shop today after having the stock air filter back in the car for several days. The shop did the scan and a smoke test to check for any leaks, none were found. After performing a reset on the SES light, it stayed off for about 50-60 miles and later returned after wide open throttle jump onto the highway.

I still can't seem to isolate the problem specifically to the MAF sensor, but at this point I'm willing to try anything before taking a chance at replacing the sensor completely and hoping the light stays off.

Have the dealer or shop check your low pressure fuel pump pressure. From what I understand, if your pump is about to take a dump, it'll give inconsistent pressure, and you'll notice a very slight surging during WOT.
