Miles to next service going down too quick??

Had my 335i serviced around a month ago, Since then my miles to next service has been going down very rapid, Ive done around 1k and it now shows im needing a service in 4600 miles????

I went for a 20 miles run and it went from 4900 miles to 4600 miles to next service???

Any ideas why this may be happening???

Thanks for looking

I have no idea if this it correct or not, but it sounds like one of two things. Either your sensor is going bad or they never changed your oil but instead just reset the indicator.

I'm now at 9200 miles and have seen my to next service mileage coming down. Up until 8000 miles or so, I was due for service at 15K miles. Somewhere after 8K it started going down... due at 14,500, then 14000 and now I'm due at 13,500. I think the oil is just getting dirty and the sensor is adjusting the mileage down. Also worthy to note, I was always at 100% full oil level and at about 8500-9000 it dropped down a click or two. Seems to be about 75% now.

The oil service "mileage" is Juan estimation. It's actually based on many things. The way you drive has an effect on this.

Are you sure it's the Oil Service? Why not check your OBC for time/mileage to F/R Brakes, Brake fluid, Inspection, Safety Inspection, etc.

Thanks for your replies guys, One thing im not 100% about is the oil they used?? I cant remember exactly which oil they used but it was not Mobil1 0w40, which I was told was the ony oil recommended by BMW for the 335, Could it be the wrong oil causing the sensor to malfunction????

Thanks again

That's correct.

And while Mobil1 0w40 is approved for your motor, why not go with BMW 5w30? It is the OEM oil and I find it is generally cheaper than Mobil 1 as well. After running 4 Bimmers exclusively on it, I've had no oil related problems and an average oil consumption of less than one quart in 8,000 miles.
