Dash Light
Hi all
I have had what looks like an engine light come on on my dash. Orange engine outline with a couple of fans. There is nothing in the owners manual and no control messages. It comes on when the engine is started and stays on but all seems fine except the light. Any pointers please? Thanks Dawsey |

Looks like the last one, orange outline of the engine and fans, one on top one on the left. Could be something else but look like fans to me. looks like giving BM a call and getting her in for a look see. Thanks Dawsey |

Simple fault code read required and that *should* identify the problem area/fault.
Be prepared for a wallet-emptying!

I think what you're interpreting as fans is the "exhaust fumes" wavy lines. My money's still on the emission light.

Chaps, the warning light is just generic and could mean anything if it's the one I think.
I got the top one but in orange, and got reduced power too. Faults logged were VANOS ones so some parts to do with the cams were replaced along with the cam itself. All went well for 500 miles then same thing happened again 3 times in one morning, logged both VANOS issue and also boost control valve issue both at the same time so one no doubt caused the other. Will let you know the diagnosis! Currently enjoying the benefits of Hertz's finest 318D Cheers Ben |

Same light on my car today (2-Jun-09)
So My wife has just called to say she has "a light come up in orange on the dash, what does it mean?"
My reply "I don't know, what's it look like?" She couldn't describe it so I made her get out and get the manual from the boot of the car. sounds like it's running lumpy and lost power. Strange that they should all be suffering similar problems all around the same time.

https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/d...90+E91+E92+E93 If it's CC-ID 29 then it can be many things and it really depends on how the car drives. Does it feel rough and like it's only running on 5 cylinders? Any long crank time when you start the car? I have had this quite a few times and have replaced all the ignition coils on one bank (cyl. 1-3). You really need a fault reader to see what it is. |

Just picked it up and I was pretty dismayed at the prognosis of simply changing the oil! Aparently this should have been done when the camshaft was replaced a couple of weeks ago. I was told that if the problem comes back then they will, guess what, change the camshaft
Also checked both boost (?!) solenoids and they were fine. The car runs fine both normally and in limp mode (apart from being somewhat slower) with no hesitation or lumpyness. It was light ID 29 yes. Funny that a load of us are getting problems, perhaps Shell have produced a batch of exceptional V Power and the cars are advancing the timing so far that it's causing probelms I'm off for another long trip in the morning so fingers crossed that the wash/vac and oil change has fixed the thing Cheers Ben Last edited by Ben335i; 06-04-2009 at 09:00 AM.. Well mine went to BMW at Tring today to be looked at, turned out to be an oxogen sensor at the front, will be fitted tomorrow as none in stock and happy to say covered under the warranty.
