We complain of pricing vs USA... think Australia?

Down under, a base model 335i costs the equivalent of CAD$100k!!!

It's the import taxes...

Try Denmark and other nordic countries, their car taxes are HIGH.

+1
those countries are pretty crazy..

but consider countries like taiwan, japan, or even worse --- hong kong and singapore!! ...

the cost of cars in HK and singapore is almost 3 times the cost of cars in canada!!

so yea, canada is not the cheapest place but i think we are one of the cheapest countries around.

In Jamaica, they tax according to engine size. So the tax on a 2.0 L is twice that of a 1.0 L.

What makes it worst is the price of the BMW/MB/VW in Germany!!! The car is made there and they still have to pay a lot more then us!

My uncle in India recently purchased a base model 3 series sedan and it was $75000 CAD so 100K for a 335i makes sense.

Don't you just love the smell of trade barriers in the morning?

Well, while such info can make us feel better about our sort, we can still keep complaining compared to US prices.....

Don't you guys also have to factor in the price/wages/salaries of the people in those countries? I don't think you can do an apples to apples comparison merely on absolute dollar figures.

PPP or Purchasing Power Parity (measured in USD) comes into huge play when comparing the same commodity in different countries. Singapore being one of the most expensive because they have one of the highest PPPs in the world. That's why US and Canada pricing are so similar because we have similar PPP per capita.
