Sirius Question: New HU?
2010 Stereo with Sat Prep: Instead of buying the Sirius module or using some type of third-party receiver, could I just buy a used head unit from ebay/boneyard - perhaps one from 2011 + with the satellite receiver integrated into the HU? I've seen them sell for between $200 and $300.
If that's a viable option, what else would I need to do? Run the cable for the satellite antenna from the HU to the sharkfin? Have the new HU recoded? Also, if I get one that's from a Hi-Fi or Logic7 stereo, would I still have a need for the JL Cleansweep? If I can return or sell that it would pay for the newer HU. |

What system do you have?
I dont really know much about the stock head unit with Bluetooth, but have you considered an aftermarket head unit? I installed an alpine s920hd and now I have nav, bluetooth, sirius, hd radio, and a rearview camera for around $800. There are cheaper options though. |

It's the "Base" stereo: 2 door speakers, 2 underseats, 2 rear. No tweeters.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...27&postcount=4 I think the aftermarket HU path is more trouble/expense than I want to undertake at the moment. It's also a convertible so I don't want to do anything that would make me a target for thieves. Edit: I don't know *what* I was searching on previously, but I found that I should be able to just replace the HU. The questions remaining: 1) is there a P/N for the Sat radio cable? I can search on realoem, but if someone has it handy. 2) Do I still need to have it coded for my vehicle? Last edited by 135ivert; 10-29-2013 at 11:48 AM.. |
