Amazing day...

Picked up my car today from the dealer...

Choose the Motorway in the end as I didnt want to get stuck behind traffic! Amazing machine!!

Went to Old trafford too and seen one of the best goals! Picking the car up from detailer tomorrow so hopefully get some good pictures then!

How do I check the engine temperature? I dont ve it on my dash board... Tried looking in the handbook but the place it says is where my mpg meter is...

That detailer seems to work wonders. A real silk purse out of sows ear job

And shame on you for going over the motorway! TBH I'd probably do the same, you have time to admire the surroundings!

Great motor, you must be Nice choice of options too.

I see you opted for an auto, how are you finding it?

When was the mpg needle re-introduced to the rev counter, my 335i (SE) didn't have one?

I like the auto ... I mainly got it because I want to be lazy after finish work! but in DS and manual I can just have as much fun! early days though, this is my first auto so maybe ask me again after a few months!

Im not sure when the mpg needle got re-introduced...but I cant find the engine temperature reading anywhere! How long does it take a diesel to warm up?

lol, mine had a temperature needle instead so that figures. I'm guess it will be available via your idrive with the journey info data or try toggling through the lcd modes on the stalk. Warm up time will depend on engine load and outside temperature so it depends. I'm sure someone with a diesel on here will help you out, but I'd say after 10 minutes driving you're good to open it up.

Thanks, I will give it a few more mins just to be sure. I tried the lcd modes and via idrive..cant find anything. I looked in the manual and that just refer to the needle...

I noticed this too when I test drove an E91. No temperature gauge. I just thought that BMW in their infinite wisdom have decided that we shouldn't worry our pretty little heads about such things. And actually the demo didn't have iDrive so as Gazi points out, it's not in there.

My 123d doesn't have a temp guage either. Obviously engine temp isn't important any more.

I had a feeling this would have been discussed at length and it has. And I don't appear to be too far off with the 'pretty little head' statement though I was joking.

The efficient dynamics in September 2007, brought in stop/start and a mpg meter for 4 cylinder cars. The mpg meter replaces the oil temp. gauge in 6 cylinder cars.

As far as I know, there is no temperature readout, just idiot lights to tell you if you are overheating. The oil dipstick is also electronic and can be accessed via iDrive or the left hand wheel stalk.

I cant find the oil level reading in the car either...

Check with dealer and the car no longer gives reading for temp..just an overheat symbol (which someone mentioned earlier..just to confirm)

Hahahaha, those tightarses at BMW only gave you a 1/4 tank of fuel with your new car.

Mine is a 2006 and has not got any temp gauge, just the mpg meter, which is pretty useless feature really. Either shows over 50mpg when cruising on a flat or downhill road, or 30mpg when gentle cruising around town, or under 16mpg each time I accelerate.

I see no purpose in having it!

They even removed the electronic oil dipstick in the 2010 car 1 series. Back to the old fashioned dipstick I assume.

It's to make you feel guilty everytime you accellerate.
