This topic has been beaten into the ground. Get the AA tune dude, anything else is child's play.

Actually so does mine. It's the Xdrive. That drivetrain pisses away so much more gas than an i. I regret getting the Xi, until wintertime I'm afraid a tune will not fix it. I have an AA tune and my gas mileage was unchanged, although there are those on this site that swear up and down it actually improved their GM...

The best tune for gas mileage is attached to your right leg.... You bump up PSI on the tires and that should help especially if you do a lot of Highway driving....

Why would anyone here even think, let alone report, that a performance tune increases gas mileage?

The factory tune you have is going to give you the best gas mileage figures. When designing a car, alot of the design is centered around meeting the ever stringent gov't CAFE standards. They constantly redesign cars where 85% of the new design is to meet these standards - and every couple years the standards demand even more innovative thinking to meet.

The words 'performance' and 'gas mileage' don't even belong in the same sentence...

More than likely, any performance tune is going to include increasing timing and/or fuel delivery - which does not increase gas mileage.

Plus the fact that performance tunes usually demand the use of higher grade of gas than the bottom, most cheapest grade. So even if the tune did increase gas mileage, you're now paying more $$/gallon to use the hi grade of gas which negates any minute savings in mileage.

In some cases, gas mileage is a result of what type of driving you do (city vs highway and the ratio of each), and your driving habits. One can be changed, the other cannot.

If you're looking for better gas mileage than what you're currently getting, you're better off either buying a SmartCar or a motorcycle

U.S. has been spoiled for MANY years with low gas prices compared to European drivers. It's always humerous to see all the complaints ONLY when the price of gas goes up. As soon as the price goes down, people will go back immediately to their old habits and driving gas guzzling SUV's as if nothing ever happened.

When you purchase a car, you should be fully aware of the reported gas mileage. My 328ix stated 17 City 26 Highway. I drive 26miles total for work every day, 3/4 city-1/4 Highway and I get 17.8MPG - no surprises there...

Keep your foot out of it and stay in D all the time and don't drive fast and crazy. That is how the PBX helps with gas millage. Use Map 3

But if you are like me and like to drive fast and use manual mode then you will not safe any gas.

My 328i saw an improvement of 1.1mpg after the AA tune. This is a verified figure, not one just spit out by the car's computer. This is in the same driving conditions with thousands of miles both before and after the tune. So I know for a fact that it will improve mileage slightly. That said, it still would take a long, long time to recoup the cost when you're talking about a piddly 18 miles per tank.
