Dominic,

Can you answer these:

Some questions:

1.Which one of the two remotes comes with the system?
2.Do you have to turn the unit on before the video input for it to auto sync properly or can the video unit be activated by the car's iginiton (always on)?
3.How long are the LCD cables and RF cable in feet? I dont want to mount my unit behind the LCD. Is it long enough to go under the glove box or the passenger footwell area?
4.Does your system override the car's video signal as long as it is powered?
5.How much noise is added by using this system to the original input?
6.If the LCD cables are infact too small, can you include longer calbes?
7.How long does it take to power on? If I wire it in to power on to my reverse camera when I shift in reverse, will I have to wait several seconds or will it be near instant?
8.Is there any way to avoid using the remote? Possibly have a momentary contact switch which woud toggle through the inputs?
9.Can you deactivate inputs so that you wouldnt toggle through them?
10.Are you or will you be working on a system that could merge the two signals and display the inputs on the left side while the assistance window is carried over from the car's video signal?

I'd like to see one of the members get it and post their pictures and videos.

Cool IPOD DVD/TV on your Nav screen

Hi Eveyone
Here are the answers to some questions:

1.Which one of the two remotes comes with the system?
The unit comes with it's own remote.

2.Do you have to turn the unit on before the video input for it to auto sync properly or can the video unit be activated by the car's iginiton (always on)?
The power for all devices is via ignition. not constant power. The unit remembers the video position you were in when you turned off the car.

3.How long are the LCD cables and RF cable in feet? I dont want to mount my unit behind the LCD. Is it long enough to go under the glove box or the passenger footwell area?
No, it goes behing the LCD screen. The cable is about 3ft. You can't make the cable that long because you will affect the video if you do.

4.Does your system override the car's video signal as long as it is powered?
You can select Nav or Video1-4 via its remote. You can disable unused inputs. Yes you have video in motion.

5.How much noise is added by using this system to the original input?
NONE This is why the cable can only be a certain length.

6.If the LCD cables are infact too small, can you include longer calbes?
No you can only make the cable a certain length because of video loss.

7.How long does it take to power on? If I wire it in to power on to my reverse camera when I shift in reverse, will I have to wait several seconds or will it be near instant?
You should be wiring all devices to ignition, if you wirer your camera to go on in reverse it will take too long for this iris in the camera to adjust.

8.Is there any way to avoid using the remote? Possibly have a momentary contact switch which woud toggle through the inputs?
No

9.Can you deactivate inputs so that you wouldnt toggle through them?
Yes

10.Are you or will you be working on a system that could merge the two signals and display the inputs on the left side while the assistance window is carried over from the car's video signal?
No

Thanks for the answers Dominic.

For the remote question, I wanted to know which of the two remotes this system comes with as pictured in your instruction manual.

As for question number 8

"Is there any way to avoid using the remote? Possibly have a momentary contact switch which would toggle through the inputs?"

Wouldn't one be able to program the homelink buttons on the mirror to switch the video. If the remote is RF and these units come with an RF remote receiver, it should work. Just hide the RF receiver in the car somewhere and the transmitter in the mirror ought to be more than powerful enough to do the trick.

I'm pretty sure its infrared remote and not RF. If you look at the instructions it tells you to keep the receiver in the iDrive screen vent port.

Hey Poldim, wasn't 'Vorsprung Durch Technik' (in your sig) Audi's catchphrase? I remember the commercials in the UK.

Just FYI.

How much would a good custom audio shop charge to install this unit? Is it something that I could do myself with very limited knowledge of the cars electronic system? Also, what is required to switch between my I-drive and your device's operating system?
