Exhaust Jargon

First off... why is the 320d under NA engines? I'm pretty sure mine has a turbo.

Secondly, I'm looking at exhaust mods but all the jargon has me confused. Can someone quickly run through the following terms for me and how they fit in terms of flow/performance.

decat
catback
downpipe
diesel particular filter
tips
crosspipe
(any other ones I should know about?)

I read the wiki about it but it doesn't go into what's good to replace for performance.

Is it the more I replace the better?

decat = good
higher flow downpipe = good
more open exhaust( with or with out cat) = good

getting newer engine software for your diesel engine with a more open exhaust will give some pretty dramatic performance gains

+1

I don't know anything about these guys, just did a quick search and it seems they offer ECU flash units that can bump a 320d up by 40hp and 75ft/lb torque: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253564

There are probably at least half a dozen other companies out there that do this too, but just to give the OP an idea.

Yeah I'll definitely end up getting a tune when my warranty runs out.

My thought at the moment is if I only replace part of my exhaust, will that still help? As in... if the bottleneck lies in the DPF and I do a decat it'll still be good?
