My e90 engine overheat problem

So my E90 got an engine overheat warning last week when I drove from San francisco to LA. I drove for like 2 hours under around 100 degree....the overheat came on and I stopped my car for an hours then start driving again with no problem later. Could it be a water bump failure?

Also my A/C does blow cool air but after like 40 mins drive, it stop to blow cool. This also happened when the weather is hot. Could it be a related problem?

After reading few thread about the same problem, I really do not know what to do, so expert please help me out

Just called the mechanics guy and he quoted me $1000 for water bump and thermostat replacement, is that reasonable?

Sorry for my bad english as I am not native american

My Car: 2006 E90 330i 70k miles.

Do you have an extended warranty? Have you scanned for any codes? Check all fluids? Find any leaks?

I just paid $1100 to get my pump and thermostat changed. $1000 seems about right.
