This stuff works great. I've had it on my car for the 2yrs I've owned it and it only started to peel at the end of the window trim just recently (sedan trim isn't a 1pc like the coupe). Then, yesterday, I bought a build-it-yourself shelf and the box was so long, it had to hang out of the window. I didn't think to lift it through the window, so some of the plasti-dip rubbed off while it was being slid through....ooops! Either way, it's a great DIY and easy to do. I've been meaning to re-do the trim...guess I REALLY need to do it now.

Just finished plastidipping my trim and badge today. Got to say the badge turned out perfect, but the trim needs some more work. Overall looks terrific, and makes a HUGEE difference, but I ran into a few issues, too, so I think i'm going to re-do it whenever I have a free weekend.
A few issues I ran into: I can see my overspray patterns when viewing the trim from in front of the car, and I think my coats weren't too even. When peeling off a few areas, I exposed tiny areas of the chrome trim, and some areas didn't peel off as clear, so there was extra paint hanging. And how the hell do you take the plastidip off the parts that are already black / rubbery, right under the trim (or behind it, on the top part)?? Next time, I'm definitely gonna get one of those spray can comfort grip things to make things a lot easier.. my finger is SOOO sore after applying 4 coats.

That shouldn't be possible if you give each coat some time to dry.. |

Finally got around to fixing my window trim. The only problem I had was re-installing the trim on the door. PITA to push/slide back into place. Definitely next time I will leave it on the door and just tape it off. Fortunately, the piece surrounding the top part of the door frame pops off/on easily. I had to remove plasti-dip from the pieces that had been on there for over 2yrs (not sure exactly how long it was on there before I bought the car). Extremely easy to get off, most came off in large pieces (depending on how fast I peeled).
This stuff is a great, temporary fix/mod to any trim. I also dipped a friend's minivan. The bumpers (front/rear) and side trim were faded. One can (4 total) for each part was enough to apply several layers, and enough left over to do the roof spoiler. Looked like brand new bumpers/trim on an old van.

when i did my window trim a few weeks ago...i ended up using two cans for the whole project. some may say that was overkill....but it took me hardly any time at all to remove the excess. |

Has anyone gotten their trim to look uniform across the entire thing?

Mine seems pretty uniform.... I decided to hold down the spray for the entire length of the piece of trim I was doing. Ex. I start the spray off the window trim on the right, then proceed to go all the way from right to left, and off the trim still spraying, with out ever letting go of the spray.
Found that one solid stream leaves no heavy spots or stop start spots that could make it uneven. |

I don't see how this a legitimate way change the color of the trim. One or two passes through a car wash and this stuff is going to come off just as easily as you applied it. It seems like it would be easier to use vinyl electrical tape instead.

Electrical tape? For real?
I dont take my car through touch car washes to begin with. I go to bays with the high pressure spray gun and wash it with that and by hand. Dont have any problems with it coming off even with the high pressure water and normal hand wash. I don't see why it's not a legit way. People do their whole cars. |

this is definitely "legit". i know a few people who have sprayed their wheels...which obviously are subjected to a lot more stress than your window trim....and after many months it has held up just fine. and LetsRock......you really take your car through drive-thru carwashes?? i usually wash my car at home...but when i do got to the carwash occasionally to meet up with friends...i do the exact same thing CUTigers does... bring my own bucket/wash mitt with soap/water already mixed so i can wash by hand....then just rinse with the pressure hose. |

I just did my trim on saturday and i think it turned out great! Thanks for making this diy, it made this job extremely easy!!
only thing i could could contribute to this, that i ran into, was dont let your spray can get too empty. when its starts feeling a little low move on to can #2. i tried to get every last drop out of my first can and it started sputtering and spitting out blobs of this stuff. thanks again! |

I just did this but you can see some of my shady work in certain angles...I'm too lazy to prep up the car again and put more layers on so I'm going to deal with it for now. Also did my grill.
Prepped: Finished Product: If you look closely at the grilles you can see that I added my Cyba scoops too

Looks great. Any close ups to see the texture?

I'll try to take a pic tomorrow. It's a textured finish.

Just leave room and spray right below the mirror. The does will make it simple for the Plasti dip to peel off.

You can paint the entire car if you want. But yes this can be done and there is a thread showing someone doing that.
