Insurance?

Just curious how much you guys here in the PNW are paying for car insurance on your e90s. I'm trying to do some shopping around and see what others' experiences are, and which company would be the best

Company: State Farm
Car: 06 330i
Full coverage: Y
Deductibles: 100/100
Monthly Premium: $128.00 (includes my rental insurance too)
Limits: 100/300/100

Includes: Roadside service and 80% of Rental up to $1000

Got into an accident last year, hit and run with a drunk driver. They were really cool about the whole thing. Claims adjuster kept in touch and made sure I filled everything I needed out. At the time I had a $500 deductible and after it was proved I wasn't at fault they sent me a $400 refund for my deductible really quickly. I also didnt have PIP (Personal Injury Protection) at the time of the accident but right now I have paperwork submitted from my roommate and I from the accident to cover our lost time from work and medical bills. So if we are given any kind of refund it is all on them because technically I wasn't covered at the time. I haven't had any problems with them and with this one accident I've been in they have been really helpful and easy to work with. I'd stay with State Farm if I was you.

Hate to be Debby downer, but threads like this are pointless. You can't compare what you are paying to someone else, even if you guys live in the exact same house, drive the same car, have the same birthday and have the same coverage. Your rates are still going to be different. One company might be the best price for one person, but could be the worst price for you. Every company has their "target market". The key is to find which company you fit into into as their target market.

The only way to tell if you're paying a good rate is to call around and get quotes from different companies because the only rate you can compare against is your own.

Driving record, credit score, how long you've had insurance, how long you've been with one company, where you live, how many people live in your house, the average age of drivers in your house, your coverage limits, your deductibles, and how many claims you've had are just SOME of the factors that go into determining your insurance rate. And as you can see, that rate will be different for anyone and everyone.

With that said, I pay $70/month for two cars with half a million dollars liability, $200 deductibles and full coverage. Age 26 living in 98033.

Hell yeah that's a good deal. Typically the "sweet spot" with deductibles is $200 comp and $500 or $1k collision. Most people don't feel comfortable with a $1k collision deductible though

I'm on my parents policy, which is why it's so cheap (they have many policies and multiple cars, both of which equal more discounts, hence why my portion is so cheap- it actually calculates to $66/month for my cars). Pretty sure they have farmers.

House and boat is insured with PEMCO, and my cars will be too once I get married. My rates will go up at that point (since I'll lose the 40yr customer discount my parents get), so I'm sticking to my parents policy until the wedding.

If someone ran into you with their bike, you shouldn't have had to pay your collision deductible (collisions means YOU causing damage to your own vehicle). That should have fallen under comprehensive. (comprehensive means anything other than collision- a tree falling on your car, a deer hittin you, a bicycle hiring you, car catching fire, getting stolen/broken into, etc).

That's retarded. What insurance do you have? Did you ask to talk to the manager? If I were you, I'd file a complaint with the insurance commissioner because that's bullshit. Collision claims affect your rates

No comment on state farm (pretty sure my insurance license prevents me from talking bad about another company), but yeah call them back and raise hell. It was a moving object that hit you, which means that goes under comprehensive, and comprehensive claims don't affect your insurance rates.

Yeah, seems sketchy. This happens a lot though- certain companies will file a claim under collision even though it should be comprehensive. They won't raise your rates internally, but they file it under collision so that if you try to switch companies within the next three years, the new company will see a collision claim and will then quote you a higher rate so then you end up sticking with the original company.

It's a dirty practice that happens all the time unfortunately. So while your rates might not go up, good luck if you want to switch to a new company anytime soon. It's possible to do, but there is a couple extra steps and you'll have to have state farm write you a letter saying it wasn't your fault in order for the new company to not charge you for it.

Hope that makes sense

Oh ok. I am on parents insurance right now too. They have Progressive. I pay $45 a month, it covers everything except if I crash and its my fault, my insurance wont pay for my car.

Thanks, TIM

Is there a reason you don't have collision coverage? Thats taking a big financial risk on your part.. Typically you want to have collision coverage until the car isn't worth much more than a couple thousand dollars (my rule of thumb was anything worth more than $3-4k I would recommend having collision coverage). But I'm assuming you drive an E9X, so your car is definitely worth more than a couple thousand bucks. The only time you wouldn't have collision coverage on a newer car is if it has a salvaged title, in which case I don't know of a company that will allow you to have full coverage.

wow lindsay you have a broad knowledge on this stuff. I just recently switched my insurance back to Ameriprise from Allstate. This time around, I raised my collision to 1k because I rarely get into any accidents. I'm paying about 735 for 6 months on my M3.

Unfortunately, because of a few speeding tickets, I'm paying a lot more than all of the prices i've seen above =(. I'm paying like $1400 / half year.

Up until a few months ago, I was an insurance agent for the last 5 years so I might know a thing or two about insurance
