Can someone tell me if I have active headrests? Thinking of doing a dvd headrest install. Car is a 2009 328i sedan production date 2008 -10-08.

If so how can I do a workaround install so no errors? Thanks much.

The headrests are not "active" in an e90 sedan, just go hold the adjuster clip and pull them out. The active head restrains/curtains are in the sills of the cars a and b pillars. The headrests you are thinking of are in the convertible or e93 as we call it as they don't have b pillars.

Active headrests have a plug on them so you can't just pull them out as the previous poster said.

I believe staring in 09, the e90 had active headrests. The way to tell is if you can manually tilt your headrest or not. If they can't tilt forward or backwards manually, then they're active. The non active ones had a little clip that allowed you to easily remove the headrest as well.

2009 model year and up E9x most certainly do have active head restraints. They will move up and forward in a rear end collision to prevent whiplash.

Interesting as I have a 2011 e90 and it does not have an active headrest, and I have sport premium seats. How does the car know how tall the driveris to raise the head rest? In the verts it is a structural protector primarily for rollover.

You do. You're thinking of the rollover protection system which is something completely different.

There's no labeling or anything that identifies it as AHR. It's just standard and only on the front seats. You can tell the difference with pre-09 cars because the AHR do not have stitching on the headrest and you will not be able to manually tilt them or completely remove them.

As far as how high, I think they just move the same amount from whatever height you have them set at.
