carnuts3, granted i understand that everyone coming out with a md, jd, or mba do not make 150k automatically, but if you look at students graduating from top 25 schools, they usually end up doing well for themselves. if not in the 150k+ range, they're more likely going to be in the six-figure range.

and yes, i was grossly overstating that there are plenty of professions. i guess i can really only think of those three that actually pay that much out of school. i guess my point was that within those three professions, it's entirely probable that a person can make that much just after graduation. although, i can't really understand why employers are willing to pay that much for someone that has no real practical experience.

Ivy league (or Ivy league equivalent like Stanford) MBA's with experience.
Specialty MD's
Some Ivy league JD's
People who are already connected through their family or friends (i.e. Chelsea Clinton, and many of the Ivy league graduates)
Some top engineers in high demand areas

Any others?

2 reasons they pay, Supply vs. demand AND to hire the the person now at a salary that reflects the expected future contributions to the firm/office.

Self-employed, a hard life but then you only have to answer to yourself and at the end of the day you chose the hours you do.

You never get a head in life by taking the easier option.

Someone enlighten me.

I for one wouldn't tell anyone here how much I earned and I doubt too many people would do it either.

P.S.
Your poll .............. it doesn't go high enough.

Agree about the relevance question? I would expect most M3 buyers to be in the top bracket in any case, so no real surprise.

Also, agree that the poll brackets should be much higher keeping in mind non-USD buyers, cause some of us pay way more!!!

Still, regardless of this stuff, for me its the passion for the car and not how much you make that puts value in this forum.

You are correct. Which is beans when you think about how many hours a week residents work. A newly passed law limits it to 80hrs/week but before that you could easily work 120hrs in a week. The pay off is after residency!

That's not a very good statement. It is not 100% true either way you apply it.

The problem with this poll is that it's not taking into account different salary levels of different countries.

You'll probably find that a large % of the people voting 150k plus don't stay in the USA and with the weak dollar that just makes it worse.

BTW in the UK there was a program about how much Britain earns on approx 1 month ago.

you had to earn £46k to be in the top 10% of earners.

Now if you polled for what % salary do you earn compared to the list price of the M3 in your country

50% of list
100% of list
150% of list
200% of list
300% of list

You'd probably find a lot less people that earn 3 times list of the car compared to $150k as there are quite a few non USA members and the car costs double or more in some countries

yes, it may be possible if those 60 (0.01%) accounted for only 1%, or even 10% of the poll, but not 75%

if the toy makes you more productive, then do it; it may be better for you in the end;

if it stresses and presses; or you lose sleep, then forget it

life is about balance

my first m3 (e36) was considered absurd by those around me, and i guess at the time it was. i grew into it though (income wise) and i knew i would. that car helped drive it. it was my prize. if i thought it wasn't responsible, it wouldn't have happened. now i think about a 911 turbo as the next target and i've owned two e46 m3's with the new m3 on the way.

it's all relative anyway. enjoy life.

It is correct, yet often not enforced by some specialties. They get around it because they "average" out the hours over say a month or 6 month period. As a resident, you can anonymously report any violation in duty hours but most do not for fear of repercussions. Most "ancient" physicians see this as a right of passage into "their" specialty. Though horrible at the time, in hindsight it wasn't that bad, and life now couldn't be any better.

Free food sounds great until you try it!!

It is now regulated and it's not a law. It's a "rule" that hospitals have to respect in order to be accredited.

But back to the topic... I guess that a 50K salary would be very tight for an M3 or any car over 40k, unless you live for free (parents) and don't have kids or wife to maintain. Now, I do believe that if a person really want to "treat himself" and is able to at least finance it with no problem, the go for it!!!

Other people have other hobbies and spend thousand in other stuff (much less useful than a car).

Interesting idea, very poor choice of options. I don't know why anyone would think most M3 buyers make between 50 and 150k. I feel a set of options starting at under 50 and going up by 50k each option would probably produce a bell curve, or at least something close.
