No Factory Tours Starting June 1st

I wanted to give everyone taking Performance Center Delivery (PCD) an update regarding factory tours. The BMW Manufacturing Plant has informed us that as of June 1st there will NOT be any factory tours available until further notice. The museum will still be open for viewing and watching a virtual tour of the factory (except for holidays).

Everyone taking delivery before June 1st should be able to take a factory tour.

PCD scheduling

How flexible is scheduling a Performance Center Delivery date? It seems like its gotten so popular, that the date your given is non-negotiable.

If you want a delivery date that is like 3 months after your car comes off the line, you shouldn't have a problem. My E92 completed production on 3/1 and was offered a date of 4/27. My first choice was 4/24, but this will work out just as well for me.

This blackout on factory tours only affects the Performance Center in the US, correct? The factory tours in Munich remain unaffected?

(Fiancee and I will be in Europe in Sept, and we're stopping in Munich expressly for a factory tour and museum excursion, so I'm, uh, interested to know...)

STE92VE- this forum going to be lost when you start spending all your time with your car instead of here.

Thanks for the endorsement! I'm sure there will plenty of others with OCD to pick up the slack, but then again, with OCD, why would I stop posting on the forum?

As Jonathan posted, this is effective as of June 1st.

To the best of my knowledge, the blackout for the plant is only for the US and not Europe. Enjoy your trip to Munich

Glad I can help. Just tell Donnie not to do any hot laps with my E92!

They did this last year too. Is this due to re-tooling, etc.?

Don't worry, if we do take it out, I'll post a picture of it in a 80mph drift for keepsakes

Just wanted to update everyone about the factory tour closure...

I have been told there will be no factory tours for at least 1 year starting June 1st.

I guess they are really wanting to keep the new vehicles a secret.

That sucks. I'm ordering my car this weekend and was really only interested in the factory tour portion of the PCD.

I guess we can't see the new X6 being produced

For those of you who are going, at the Zentrum, there's a 10 min film about the assembly process which I thought was cool. There's no substitute for the real thing, but it gives you a taste.

I was just thinking that might be one of the reason for the blackout

Can just anyone come up for a factory tour even without doing PCD?

Unfortunately, no. But you do get to visit the Zentrum Museum and watch a video presentation of the manufacturing process.

Can't they just blindfold everyone so that you can at least SMELL the tour?

What is amusing of course, is that on June 2 there will be spy shots all over the Internet...
