If you put your finger over the dip stick tube, is there any feeling of pressure? I suppose i could do it myself on my unit.

FWIW, when i disassembled my intake box last weekend, I stuck my finger down into the 3" elbow into the outlet of the 4" long ribbed section. I barely found any oil residue in there. My finger wasn't wet but there was a smudge of black on my finger. Others have described a much messier condition at the top of this 4" long hose. I wonder if this is the variable we have been seeing where some guys can run 80 or 90 kmiles and okay. Other guys run 50k and bam, CBU!

My car had a pool of oil both on the lip of the first turbo and at the EGR valve. This is why this was such a must for me.

HA! I did put my finger on it :-) At idle I couldn't notice any pressure. But my finger tip isn't highly calibrated ...

Whos this for? Pretty much just gotta buy the bms can and some tubing. There you can decide how you want to route it and buy 2 fittings. Easy as can be.

Hi sorry if this is a dumb question. But would gravity play a part in the catch can. Would it have to be installed lower than the elbow pipes. Also what about "pooling"
I have a 335d so looking to do this mod.
Thanks.

Yes mounting it lower would be very ideal. However available real estate under the hood is hard to come by. Trick is you would want lower but not into areas that get below freezing as the tubes risk freezing closed with moist vapors in winter climates.

At one point I was curious to mount it low in the front right fender well but struck out. That area is packed with the oil cooler and brake ducts plus puts it in the freeze zone.

Thanks Mark.

So could you briefly explain how a catch can works on the 335ds. How does the oil get into the pipes. Thanks again

Digging up an old thread with another cath can build.

@JDG: Your setup is a setup with long hoses, my setup is a bit shorter, with also a BMS catch can.

Can you confirm, that after having this setup for a longer time it has not give you any troubles till today?
What i mean with that is, can you confirm that you don't have/had any issues with oil leaking seals due to any kind of overpressure with your "long hoses" setup. I am a little bit concerned that having this long piping to the "catch can" it potencially can compromise the vacuum values, needed to properly evacuate the PCV fumes.

I know TDIwyse has done some research about this issue but that was regarding to short piping, with positieve results.

IMHO the only negative thing that could occur with long hoses is a bit of vacuum delay when suddenly hitting the throttle hard but i could be wrong.
I would be very grateful to know your experience with you setup till now about this issue.
